"Trying to keep the family Together' doesn't make sense. Trying to keep his kids does. There is absolutely zero chance that them getting back together would last or be a happy situation for anyone. And I am a knight in shining armor kind of a dreamer and yet I know there is zero hope here.
She won't SUDDENLY decides she loves him again. The closest she will come to that is when she realizes Asshole doesn't want her anymore so she will come skulking back until she feels secure enough to leave again.
I wonder if Dave can talk to a lawyer about getting primary care of the kids with supervised visitation right for his wife. She shouldn't be allowed with the kids unsupervised. And I am not even talking about her hurting them physically. She might be a decent mom who would never hurt her kids... but the emotional toll on them will be unacceptable. She is too unstable to be with the kids imo.
I guess step 1 should be a legal separation.

You've already gotten a lot of the same advice I would've given. Be there for your buddy and urge him to do whatever he can to a) keep his kids safe, and b) maintain custody of them since she is mentally unstable.

We all know you don't have kids yet but this reply just proved it. Even if he did find out that none of them were biologically his, I am willing to bet he would still love them all the same. Being a sperm donor and actually being a father are not the same thing.
at the end of the day, biology rules and only fools who think being the "father" to some one else kids rules lol. love how modern day bs rules. in the olden days if you find out those kids aren't yours you could probably legally kill the kids and the wife without evening batting a eye.
