That should be up to the company providing your insurance. If the Catholic church, as stupid as I think their belief is, does not want it as part of the policy they provide to their employees, then that is their right. If an employee does not like it, they are free to purchase an individual policy or seek employment elsewhere.

Yeah but it is ok for them to take federal money for "faith based" federal programs.

I got ya, prejudice is ok as long as it is religious prejudice.

There is this little document called the Bill of Rights that protects religious freedom. IMO the Catholic doctrine has no basis in scripture but they still have the right to have that belief and the govt doesn't have the right to tell them they can't have that belief.

I wonder what liability that opens up the health care provider to though if they give you condoms and you bang a chick and she gets pregnant anyway.

and dont tell me about how it says they arent 100% because in this crazy world of litigation I bet somebody could sue anyway.

Seriously

They provide the flu shot.

Do you sue them when you get the flu?

we live in a world where somebody can buy coffee, spill it on their crotch, and win a lawsuit because it was hot.

dont give me that crap.

My tax money is used to further their belief, I guess that is ok in your book though.

Cool for Muslims to take US Tax money and call for be headings then too, right?

Yes.

One of the few things that I appreciate about my insurance (although I've yet to use either one, my husband had a vasectomy that was covered by the insurance) is that it covers birth control AND abortions.

If their "belief" included slavery would we have to let them own slaves?

Look, most of you people don't know the facts of this "issue". Contraceptive coverage is mandatory for all insurance policies and has been for decades, what changed recently is that it was mandated as preventative care, and as such, it has to be offered with no co-pay. That's it.

Yep, contraceptive coverage has been mandated as something that health insurance must cover in this country for longer than some of you have been alive.....even the health insurance offered by churches (if they offer health insurance to their employees).

20 states have mandated it be treated as preventative for years, yes even for churches, and guess what? It's CHEAPER. Policies cost less in those states and insurance companies make more money off of them. Seems not having to pay for unwanted pregnancies and/or children saves money, who would have thunk it?

I know everyone here is all about "FREEEDOOOOM" and crap, but reality and logic rears it's ugly head between your opinion and facts. We don't let companies sell products that will hurt you, we don't let hospitals decide they aren't going to treat you because you are the wrong color, we don't let people throw rocks off of bridges onto your car because god told them to. There are rules and regulations for everything because without them, some bastards would have killed most of you by now. Health insurance has to cover your health, all of it, even the "dirty bits". That's what we decided as a country decades ago and it isn't going to change now, no matter how much some people want it to.

Reproductive health is important. Women die from getting pregnant, women die from diseases that can be treated by the very same pills that prevent pregnancy, many women (millions of them) benefit from taking bc pills in myriad ways other than simply not getting knocked when they don't want to do so....and women are going to get those pills despite the "moral outrage" or "Libertarian gun slinging swagger" of the minority.

Trying to frame this "issue" as one of religious freedom is silly. It has nothing to do with religion. Anyone is free not to take the pills, not to even fill out a Rx to get them. That is their freedom, it's total. No force involved, they are free to remain bc pill free forever and the entire might of the military and local law enforcement will fight to the death to see that it remains that way. What those people aren't free to do, is keep other people from having access to those pills, anymore than they can keep them from getting insulin or chemotherapy.

Preventative care saves money, saves lives, and helps everyone live a more healthy and fulfilling life. If your religion is against that, your religion is stupid. (IMHO of course).
