I did one upon a time buy leaded gasoline (1974-mid 1990's) 
Those were the days when, as Rho said, 'premium' was often referred to as 'high-test' and everytime you pulled into a gas station, your gas was pumped for you, your windows cleaned,
and your oil and wiper fluids checked!  Was all just 'routine'...Truly!

That was back when it was fun to pull my '71 bug convertible in and ask the guy to check the water level in the radiator.

Yes, and I remember my Papa used to use High Test.
Oh, and this guy at the gas station pumped it for you, cleaned your windshield and put air in your tires.

I know people that use av-gas they buy from the local airport to mix with normal gas to boost up the octane level.

back in those days most people pulled the cats off or punched them out.
around here its still done because there is no safety or emission tests.
