LOL @ the unprepared people who put off insurance for a few bucks extra to splurge on things they didn't need. Yeah, now you want the coverage after the accident.

All I did was give my CC# to the college's group policy people, they put $450 on it and TADA my kids and husband were magically covered right away, no questions asked. Apparently by paying my tuition fees I was magically covered in the first place, no questions asked.

that's awful serena. it's really messed up you are thrown under the bus because a bunch of companies decided you weren't profitable.

I get to fill out those BS 300 page packets over and over again. I even offer to sign a rider to exclude any pre-existing conditions and still get rejected but am told "ou have the right to appeal the decision". I flat out asked one lady at United Health if she knew if any of the appeals ever got approved and she honestly replied "rarely, I am so sorry".

The really annoying part is that they are lumping two completely separate health issues together because they can be construed as both being neurological. (I had brain surgery back in 2008 and then this last October I when to a chiro because my neck and back were kinked up from stress at work...)

It is the ONLY thing keeping me from being able to quit my job which is the primary reason I have health issues to begin with. Talk about irony

Health insurance isn't a right. If those companies can't profit off of you, then you don't deserve insurance. You should pay for your bills out of pocket, and shop around comparing the medical services offered.

And if she's in a car accident? While she (or her kids) is bleeding out in the emergency room, should she be "shopping around" to find a place they can take her that she can afford? Health insurance IS a right, or rather affordable healthcare is. And healthcare that bankrupts you is not affordable healthcare.

Sadly even my beloved NHS back home is being privatized and they reckon it'll only be a few years before we're in the same situation as the US with health insurance companies

Apparently you can't read...I have insurance now. I pay over $450/mo for a crappy HMO. I want to just get a policy for an emergency so that I can quit my job which sucks donkey nuts. Ultimately we are looking at moving back east and I don't know how long it will take for BT to get a new job which has benefits. His current one does not. There has been no splurging nor any accident.

If Taxachusetts counts as "back east", you could use Romneycare. Also, I think you're underestimating the job prospects of someone who knows Linux. I suspect it will be days rather than months.

Just like the ski lodge with young women looking for husbands and husbands looking for young girls, the situation is not as symmetric as it first appears.

If you know BT at all he will not be looking at Taxachusetts for that very reason...We will just visit there

This is not necessarily true, a friend of mine graduated last spring specializing in Networking and Linux/Unix Admin. It took her 6 months to find a job even slightly related to her field, and another 6 months to actually get a job in her field.
