Pretty sure you just hate the MLB because the Marlins are a joke.

Never saw you in a NBA thread before Lebron got to Miami either.

It ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!

There weren't any NBA threads prior to that. Lebron single-handedly elevated the NBA over FIFA and curling threads.

I don't think Lebron has ever done anything by himself.

LOL, such a hater. You just wish NBA Jesus had come to Chicago is all.

god no. He would take away from my MLB coverage. Rose already takes too much.

Doesn't it go NASCAR, NFL, MLB, NBA? I know the MLB and NBA switch positions a lot.

I have to say that any way you churn it, that this surprises me.

By all accounts I've always heard that off the field, Goober Manning (as he's known in my household) is a stand-up guy, a class act.
Now, I can't see him going to the current retiree and asking (however politely) that he be allowed to wear the number. Having your number retired is a high honor (Ron Santo said, when his retired number 10 was hung from the foul pole at Wrigley field, "THIS is MY Hall of Fame".

I also can't see him accepting the offer if the current retiree came to him and said it would be an honor if he wore his number. I think a number once retired should stay retired.

If he was the class act everyone likes to say he is, he should of politley declined, saying the number belongs to Frank Tripucka and it should stay retired

that would of been the class thing to do

this is also asuming what the spin doctors.. err I mean the Denver Broncos beat writer says is correct

Players have been giving their numbers up, retired or not, for a long time.

This is only news for people who hate Peyton Manning.

really?

I've never heard of a retired number being brought down off the rafters and handed to another player

Heck, MJ didn't even do it to his own number when he came back

Stolen from Google.
I'm sure that there are a lot of other cases.

Brett Hull's was unretired so his son could wear it.
Mario Lemieux's was unretired so he himself could have it when he made his comeback.
Stev Largent's was unretired and given to Jerry Rice when he joined the Seahawks.
Gary Carter's was unretired when the Expos moved to Washington - they gave it to another player.

did the old timer even realize what was going on? did he remember on his own he even played let alone his number?
if he did, i bet it was only because he was hounded by reporters before the team came to him.

i'm sure there are other examples, but there's only 2 above that fit really.

hull...nah, it's his kid.
Lemieux...uhhh it's HIM!
Largent was strange, but gave it to the greatest WR ever.
Carter, IMO it's a whole different team when they move, but i can see the point i guess.

LOL. I like how no one said sh** when this happened in Miami this year, and in Washington. (MLB of course, but there was no uproar from Brandun about those)

Of course not. Brandun is one of the most biased poster when it comes to certain sports teams.

pretty sure that was addressed above far better than what you came out with.

not to mention the Miami number wasn't even for a player, it was for an executive who's favorite player wore #5
