I feel like there have been a lot of similar apps/online games that are basically the same premise, so why is this one so popular that it is selling stuffed animals and other crap?

because you get to destroy things in a cute and happy way. so people dont feel like the sadist that they are. so the game became very popular and everything else just follows.

This thread begs the question: do the "women" of ACF use a funnel to get that much sand in their vagina or do they just slide around the beach like an angry Roomba? -deadcactus-

I've been wondering this myself for a while.

I think you answered yourself in your subject, though. Marketing. There were tons of games just like angry birds at the time that angry birds got big. Angry birds got the marketing, the other games didn't.

Kind of like why AC was never as popular as EQ.

I mean....successful merchandising is just because its a recognizable brand.

They got in early to the mobile game market with a good product. Early on the top seller lists = sustained publicity for a long time.

It came out at the right time for mobile app game playing.

It's smooth playing, not at all buggy, is fun, easy, has characters, and is absolutely a casual game as in not much thought needs to be put into it.

Same premise as many games yeah, but it's popular because of mobile devices.

I explain Farmville with the collector types. Some people are really into those little things you can mail each other and collecting in games.

There was always that one person in WoW that was after every vanity pet in the game.

This is just such a dime-a-dozen idea.

Edit: Yeah, I think it was probably the timing too. It was one of the early iPhone ones right?

Those people are great for making virtual currency off of. I'm glad that they exist.

They sure turn into fire-breathing buttholes when one drops in a group and they don't win it though.
