Author Topic: anyone ever try to get down to 10% bodyfat here? [Locked]

from june 2011 to now - i have lost 12% body fat (went from 30% to 18%) while maintaining roughly the same weight


i am going to try to lose another 8% body fat and lose weight this time -- my goal weight is around 190 pounds


trying not to lose the muscle i have worked for

Not me, personally. One of my co-workers has been working for it since I've been here. He's insanely small though so I don't know how easy it's been for him. The majority of his weight is muscle.


My boyfriend is bigger - his weight comes from his muscles though. His body fat I believe is around 16-17%.

the hardest part is keeping your current muscle. eat smart and clean, keep lifting heavy weights and keep your cardio reasonable. one of the biggest mistakes you can make when cutting down and trying to keep muscle is to overdo your cardio. going all out on cardio will burn muscle off. i'd say the second mistake is cutting too many calories so don't starve yourself. use things like caffeine and other supplements to keep your metabolism in high gear. don't rush it and you should keep most of your muscle and what little is lost you can gain back easily once you hit your target body fat%.

i still have 3 more weeks of hypertrophy training --- doing 4 days a week with a upper/lower split

maintenance calories for me is 3,600 calories a day right now .. i am at 220 with 18.5% bodyfat


but i am going to do some prep-dieting between now and the start of a 3 month cut


so for the next 3 weeks - i will cut out refined sugars - drop down to a 3,000 - 3,200 calorie diet


when i start my cut in mid-april i will drop down to 2,800 calories and do a 40/30/30 macro (40% of my calories from protein, 30% of my calories from carbs that are high in fiber, and 30% of my calories from fat)

after that -- i will have to recalculate my base metabolic rate weekly and shoot for a 1,000 calorie per day deficit using the same macros
