Hmm I can't get that map program to run for the life of me. Tried toggling off firewall, antivirus, patching, reinstalling. No go o.0 I'm going to poke around and see if I can find another ingame map that is friendlier to run for me, not sure what the issue is on my end.

Which client are you running? The one linked above (http://www.minecraftam.com/mm.aspx) is what you want. It isn't really an in game map as it runs in its own window but it does it well. It can be a bit of a memory beast though so you can reduce the map in an editor like Gimp/Photoshop to 50% or 25% then change the ratio in MM and it will run fine. What is it, or isn't it, doing? I can probably tell you what to do if I know where the snag is. It is just java, same as Minecraft, so should run fine baring resource/memory issues on your computer.

Oh and yeah, I did. At like 15 bucks, when I bought it, it was well worth it. I've burned dozens of hours in it easy but at that price just enjoying it for 3-4 hours would beat the hell out of some console games I have bought for sixty bucks, lol.

I was a skeptic at first too. First off, just because it's an indie game with no big label and fancy graphics does not mean it isn't a great game. Look at Braid or Limbo.. both excellent platformers that slipped under the radar for a little while before really gaining the praise they deserved. Minecraft has earned its praise at this point, and for an indie game, the sale numbers by themselves should shed light on how awesome it is.

Notable reasons why the game is fun:

-Go look up minecraft inventions. If you want the game to be more like a Garry's Mod, there's plenty of cool things you can do besides mining and building structures. Some dude built a CPU?

-Notch, the developer, is constantly releasing updates. This is one of the reasons the game is really cool. Notch listens to the community and implements new ideas and fixes bugs. In the past few months notch has implemented an entirely new hell world, various biomes that make the world feel more realistic, and near complete multiplayer capabilities. It's fun witnessing the game's maturity.

-There's no ultimate objective. You can't beat the game. The game is only as fun as you make it. Just learning the ropes of the game is still fun and worth the $20. You can't just load up the game for the first time and expect to survive.

-Community. We've been building one slowly on our server. People are ducking in and out, maybe even migrating to larger servers. Who knows? It's fun to show off your work or possibly help someone else out with a project that helps everyone in general. Steelwind has magical powers.

-Time waster. Eventually you run out of interesting crap to do on ACF, Reddit, TF2, WoW, and so forth. There's always something you can do in MC. Like I said before, it's up to you how fun the game is.

There's probably more reasons, but that's the ones I find the most important. BUY THE GAME GOD DAMN IT

You don't need to do anything to your client, besides have it running, which is why I am confused.
