I kinda like not having all the commands and stuff, makes things mean more.
one of the reasons I don't play creative I guess.

Yeah I have said the same a couple times. Having to build a nether subway system and making a run mean something makes the world feel bigger which is kind of the whole point of finding a new continent to build on. With gates and warps and whatnot the everyone might as well be living on top of each other.
I do miss the protections and some of the other tools but with the crew we have so far it really hasn't been that big a deal living without them.

w00t. The server has been huffing since they screwed that up. I way overbuilt it though so it handles it ok but you can still feel it.

I just finished the Sunburn Islands map.

Very well done stuff. I highly recommend trying them. The lack of food means you'll be eating zombie flesh pretty much the whole game. I found seeds and 8 dirt blocks.
The red wool was rage-inducingly hard to get. Good luck!

If you are having memory problems Drack download the jar version of the launcher here and put it somewhere. Create a bat file in the same location with the following lines. Change the 2048M spots to whatever memory you can spare and change the c:\minecraft\ to wherever you put it.

Save it and create a link to the bat file on your desktop. Use that to launch the game.

Thanks Steel (and everyone else who was on the server) for all your help today. I bought Minecraft and have been having a blast so far, made myself a little cave inside the side of a small mountain lol. I'm having a problem though with it freezing up and minecraft showing an error message saying it had trouble allocating enough memory to Java. I'll try to copy the exact error message when I get on later and it crashes, but right now I'm just running off memory. I tried Steel's bat trick. I'm able to run the bat file when I set the max/min to 1100mb/900mb. Anything higher and it gives me this error
Invalid initial heap size: -Xms1000/M
Could not create the Java Virtual Machine
I tried reinstalling Java, didn't do anything. It seems to freeze and give me the allocating error sort of randomly. Sometimes I can play for a good 10 minutes, other times it freezes three times in 5 minutes.
Oh also, it's not like my computer is old. It's a Intel i7 920 (quad core) and I've got 4gb memory.

Here is what Minecraft says when it freezes.
Out of memory!
Minecraft has run out of memory.
This could be caused by a bug in the game or by Java Virtual Machine not being allocated enough memory. If you are playing in a web browser, try downloading the game and playing it offline.
To prevent level corruption, the current game has quit.
Please restart the game.
I was playing minimized at the time and I noticed the .bat command prompt program right before the game froze. It spammed this.
1285: Out of memory
