So I've been hearing a lot about Minecraft. I've seen my friend play it once awhile back and it looked interesting. Convince me to buy it ACF. How much is it?

It's currently $21.95. That buys you the game as it currently stands (Your client will patch to 1.9. They aren't doing anymore full updates but they are offering pre-releases. Those you get for free. So the current version is 1.9 Pre 4. You also get the finished game. You will have to pay for any updates that add content. I assume there will be bug fixes that will be free.
Convince you to buy it? Hmm...
This thread is a replacement thread for one that was first posted in late July 2010 (I think it was late July). Steel, Sneezy, Myself, and many others have been playing for over a year now. I have yet to be bored. That should tell you something.
There are many different modes of play: Creative, you have unlimited blocks, can fly, etc.; Survival, you have to mine/find everything and watch out for monsters (unless you play on easy); Survival with Hardcore, like survival but if you die you have to let the game generate a new world and you lose everything.; Adventure, not in the game yet. It seems it will be more like an RPG than a creative, build whatever, game.
You can play multiple worlds at once. If you get bored with your first world you can play another or go online and play multiplayer.
There is a huge modding community so pretty much if you can think of it there is a mod for it.
It's a sandbox game. You can do whatever you want.
I'll leave you with a link to Coe's Quest E001. Note that the game has changed a lot since that first video. Check out more of his later episodes too. There are a few other let's play series that I follow but Coestar is the best for a new person I think.

I suspect the accuracy of some of the math in that one still.
