Cool builds!

I just finished building a nether portal on the new biome landmass that I found so people can portal over to it. When I get on this afternoon I'll ask Steel how I can get it all hooked up.

All I ask is people don't take my stuff in the chest that's in town.

Have you played on our server in the past? I only ask as I don't see your name in any of our previous world's records.

Steel, can you update the initial post here?

Just post a new one and I will copy and paste it into the first post at the start of the thread.

Also, how can I view the online map? (see the last note, no online map but I do generate a static one for download)

OK lots of changes with all the updates and pre-release versions floating around...

Game: Minecraft
Server: mc.omnikrys.com (also where you can find old world saves and a map of the current world)
Admin: Steelwind_Oo
Mods: SneezySchoo (Ah-Schoo)

We are currently running 1.9 pre which means a couple things....

1) You need to download and manually update your client to 1.9 pre which can be found here.
2) There is a white-list now. You'll have to contact Sneezy or myself here on the forums to be added if you aren't already a member. Anyone with permissions on previous servers was included in the white-list so odds are if you played on the server in the past you can get back on now.
3) We are running vanilla server. No mods, no plugins, no protections. Any indication you are breaking the rules or other complaints will probably get you banned since we are going on the honor system right now.

Once you are white-listed you can connect to the server using the 1.9 pre client. Feel free to explore and build to your heart's content.

The rules are pretty simple...

1) Do not build, destroy, remove or add things in another players area without permission. Taking things from chests, farming another players land, modifying their structures, etc will not be tolerated.

2) Be respectful of other players and their areas. Don't build a giant penis right next to someone's castle or whatever. Ask around get a feel for the community and your neighbors then start building. Or, alternately, take a journey away from civilization and build whatever you want.

3) No greifing. Players have every right to explore your area, as long as they obey rule #1. Traps, dead falls, and the like are not acceptable. Even if they are unattended. If people die to traps in your area, whether you are there or not at the very least there will be some admin carnage in your area or you will just get banned. Same goes for direct greifing... being a dick, hassling other players, trying to injure them or just basic ass-hattery will get you banned.

4) There really are no restrictions on what you build, we are an adult community. Cussing in chat, building a giant golden penis, choosing an erotic skin, whatever... we don't care as long as you aren't breaking the big 3.

The rules sound a bit dramatic but some people need things spelled out. In short don't be a dick and play nice with others. We've got a great group so far so you should have no trouble fitting in.

Some notes...

1) There are no warps or home commands or any of that since we are running vanilla. Make a bed and sleep in it to change your spawn. Then when you die you will return there. THE BED HAS TO REMAIN THERE. If the bed is gone or inaccessible you will not return there but will bounce to the server spawn point.

2) Nether for fast travel. The nether is an excellent way to get around it is 1/8th the size of the world so you can cover lots of ground quickly. Specially if you use tunnels. We have a network started that you can feel free to tie into. Just ask around about the HTH. A good example is I am 45 minutes away, by boat, from the spawn. That is assuming I hit my mark and don't get lost. A 2 minute rail ride in the nether, on the other hand, covers the same distance.

3) Nether portals and sharing. The way travel is calculated between portals it is not uncommon to land in someone else's portal when you first put yours down. The best way to do this is to have enough materials to make two portals. Make your portal in the world and write down the coords. Enter the nether through your portal then turn around and go back through the portal you arrived at. If you are not back at your portal you need to make a new portal in the nether. Divide the X and Z coords you wrote down by 8 then reenter the nether and make a portal at those coords. That portal will now take you back to your original portal and you will be fine from then on. The Y coord (height) is ignored but the HTH is up around 100 to avoid all the lava and other stuff below. Building or moving your portal up there will make it easier to tie in.

4) Signs, fences, etc are your friends. Label your place, specially if it is well hidden. If your home is a cave in a wooded valley and you don't put up signs don't be surprised if someone has built up in that valley without even knowing you are there.

5) There are old saves and a semi-current map of the current world located at mc.omnikrys.com. The map is huge but is a nice way to get a feel for where everyone is at.

the tree needs to be bigger! and have a huge canopy! BIGGER! BIGGER!

Its bigger and still getting bigger

Takes me a long time to hop and jump and slide around the outer and top edges of the whole canopy to grow new trees

Update for pairing up your nether portals... altitude does matter in the distance calculations it seems. It isn't huge but could be an issues. For example...

I had a gate in the nether, on top of some ruins, that linked to my island. I made a second gate from the mines/ravines/caves under my island and it, as expected, linked to the existing nether gate. I created a new gate on the proper coords at around 110 high so I could hook into the HTH. When I tested it though I still went to the wrong gate as it was very close to the new gate but much lower making it closer to the drop. Once I moved my old gate up to 110 though everything was fine and both gates linked up properly.

In short... height is rarely an issue but if you have two gates in the nether that are close together it can come up. Putting the two gates at, or close to, the same height should solve any problems though.

OK the redstone thing is half bug half freature it seems. A torch will burn out after being cycled 'too many times' in a period of roughly five minutes. That can't be a very high number as I've had stuff burn out in normal use... not even heavy testing. Once burned out it will stay out until the weather changes or until day/night changes (naturally). That is the feature part. The bug part is that if you find the offending torch and knock it out then replace it with another one it will, sometimes (usually in my experience), remain burned out. These two combined make redstone about useless. just in building/testing a minecart storage unit I burned out the torches... it wasn't even a complex or switching intensive circuit. I dread to see what would happen with something complex like my old shroom room with the automated lighting system.
