edit: Heh, if you dig near the tree, theres an abandoned mineshaft a bit down.

I'm busy digging a rail from my basement (on the grinder world) to the mountain in new terrain.
Someone on reddit posted a nice seed for a survival island type of map. A smallish island with a single tree on it. Didn't have to dig far to find a small ravine. But the lack of animals made for a rough time until my wheat started growing. (Then I stopped)

This one is an island with a single tree on it too, dug down and found a mine shaft with plenty of iron, coal, wood and what not just all around. Pretty cool, but man, deserted island, I swam around a bit, theres not much around it for quite awhile.
edit: Haha im retarded. There's a giant pit that goes into the mineshaft like, 30 feet from the spawn. I saw it from underground and was like, wtf? Then I went up...and my house is like, right there. Derp.

Hahah, I've done that too. Come out a hole hidden by a tree right by the house =/
My rail line has to be 716 long, only 333 to go. =/ (But I'm tunneling with tnt, so that helps.)

Kind of the same deal for me. I keep coming out of these mines/caves with no clue where I am. Whenever my bag is full I just dig straight up to get out. I have to wait until night then build up high enough to get above everything and look for lights, lol.

Two full stacks of tnt later... I had to dig the last 20 completely by hand.
A stack of gold and a bunch of stacks of iron and I have a rail link. Between my place in the lake and the mountain (at height 36 so that's going to be a dizzying stairway at first.)
Had to bridge a ravine, and glass off a lava pond too. The tunnel is very rough, I'll have a lot of work yet to close off caves and get rid of gravel and dirt in the walls and ceilings.

Got a keep built on top of the hill. Connected by stairs and a drop shaft to the rail link below which is at depth 36. The keep is right at max height.
One thing I noticed is that clouds are just above it, not going through. Yay!

Yeah that was supposed to be one of the fixes. They worded it as "clouds no longer go through things" so I figured they gave them collision though moving them up works too.

I'd have been really surprised if they did it early their time. Slightly surprised if at all today.
They gave us the pre- to hold us off a bit.
