I hope you had a police report made and I hope you contact the person that inspected it. And I hope you let your insurance company know. Things like this often cause a loss of life and should never be taken lightly. I had a front wheel come off a VW bug once cause someone at votech thought it would be funny to take the cotter pin out. Luckily with the engine in back I was able to coast to a stop. With the brake drum off I had no brakes except for the E brake.

State police filled out a report. They sent an ambulance and I signed off on that saying I did not need for them to transport me anywhere. They were going to send a hazmat team since I was close to the reservoir. But we could see there was no gas or anti-freeze leaking. I was very, very LUCKY!
My husband spoke to the inspection shop briefly and the insurance company was contacted right away. Curious to hear what the gent at the body shop says.

That's so scary, one of my biggest driving fears as well.
Very glad to hear that you weren't seriously injured.
I would certainly follow up with whether someone might be liable for the damage due to them removing the wheels.
