Anyone hex edit the .dat yet??

That reminds me, does anyone remember which server managed to keep the Nexus crystal alive for like 3 weeks, where some people were defending it? Was it morningthaw? I loved that event, where you had to go red to do the quest.

Harvestgain actually ended up with 3 copies of the Nexus armour at one point, IIRC.

only one suit on hg, owned by hellmaker, it's still on his toon. celdon iirc.

Depending on how you want to argue it, Thistledown didn't COMPLETELY defend The Shard (aka: Harold). Back in those days, you could actually LEVEL UP mobs! If your attacks missed, the mob actually earned xp and could level up from it. So while there were some valiant defenses of Harold, there were also longer stretches of time in which no one was there... and yet people couldn't kill him (party wasn't big enough, they weren't high enough level, etc). So when those (sic) "failed raids" left without a kill, what they really accomplished was leveling Harold up!

By the time a group got together to actually kill him once and for all ... it was LITERALLY impossible. He had leveled up so much, he couldn't be hit by melee and magic wouldn't land on him. There was a party plenty big enough to kill him and the people who wanted to defend it were totally outnumbered... but it didn't matter.

So, I dunno... in my mind, that wasn't a true defense. I could argue it either way, but ultimately I have to side with the fact the people were there and COULD have gotten it done but for a goofy game-dynamic gone wrong-- one that they soon removed from the game because it was so goofy.

Either way, that story arc was AMAZING! I think the Gaerlan story arc was better, took longer, and had a more epic feel... but the Shadow Wars get all the glory cause nothing beats a black demon with huge bat wings with a cooler name.

Both story arcs prove how much was done TEN YEARS AGO... and how Blizzard still has a lot of room to improve their game.

I've tried going back a few times for S&Gs but it's never what I hoped for.
I end up spending more time DLing than playing. Similar story for a lot I assume.

Nothing can beat that first feeling of awe for a gamer though. And we try like it's heroine.
I saw the box in Walmart. First ever on-line game. On a Compaq 133, amd k6 with no 3d card.
Took forever to get in (dial-up)

My first char I picked Samsur for starter town. I stared around the desert for... like... ever.
Hard to explain why it was so BA.

THEN I got me a 16mb nvidia POS that supported the 3d and lights. Some lower level Lugian place I
frequented had TORCHES! Not just light blobs. And the light in front of the armor building in
Lytlethorpe shone on the ground and junk. I about went hysterical. Then Min/Max came. And it was kill,
run, level, grindatron.

It's still "fun." I think for most avid old school gamers, it's gonna take more than smashing "the world as
we know it" or changing around some mechanics to get a big gasp anymore though

I played with Hellmaker a number of times as well as number of famous/infamous players from AC. To the best of my knowledge Hellmaker is the ONLY original owner of Shadow Armor. Everyone else eaither sold it or it was deleted due to dupeing.
