Thanks, that was it!  And because they defended it, when the devs had expected it to be killed by the next patch, they made a statue commemorating the defense of the shard.

I created a mage. I had never had a mage before that. The first thing I wanted to do was test out drain life. I came across a rabit. Drain life and the above message. There I was, running though town with a rabit chasing me. Someone killed the rabit and saved my life.
