No the Data is not the same. Data here leveling Vs time. So this is a question of efficiency/effective time.
Efficiency is directly related to the time spent and if this is in 1 time or with multiple sessions. Drawing conclusions on the data based on different intervals is not correct. you need to check if your data is "stable" and "normal".....(neither of which apply to wow
)
So as to time spend leveling and co-orelation to time / leveling session - ie
Total Process time = Setup time + Leveling time + tear down time.
Lets call Leveling time = "Added Value" time.
Efficiency is bascially "Added Value time" / "Total time".
Setup and tear down do not "add value" (ie from an exp point of view). So Effiency can only be 100% if there is no setup/teardown time.
Now expand this into 2 extremmes -
Scenario 1
1 person doing a task for 9 hours straight
Vs
Scenario 2
1 person doing a task for 9 hours in 30 minute sessions. ie 18 seperate 30 minute slots, seperated in time.
For this, lets say it only takes a few minutes of "setup and tear down". ie log in, travel, play, travel, log out.
Lets say
setup time = 10 minutes
tear down = 5 mins
Process 1 "Added value efficiency" = ((9hrs - 15 minutes) * 1 session )/9hours = 97% efficiency
Process 2 "Added value efficiency" = ((30 min - 15 mins)* 18 sessions) / 9hours = 50% efficiency
So Large blocks of time dedicated to getting "added value" (ie exp) is more effective than many small blocks.
But of course, both people wasted the same ammount of time
- No argument on that ! lol

I don't see how you can factor that much set up time into WoW especially concidering that if you don't care to accumulate rested time you can log off right where you are and start up where you left off. The time it takes to actually put in your password is negligable. Furthermore when people are disscusing time taken to level they usually just go by their /played which excludes any set up time.
If you do take time to hearth to your Inn and then travel back to where you were leveling this is suplimented by rested xp gained. Depending on the amount of time between sessions someone that is leveling in multiple sessions versus all at once could become much more effeciant since they will be earning 200% xp on mobs.
Also, I always keep my profressions up as I level, if you are a gatherer and doing the questing game, this doesn't add much time to your leveling if you are good at it. Don't assuming someone is focusing just on leveling. I leveled my Shaman fairly fast, 1 to 80 in under 6 days played, he has mining/jewel at max (for 80) he also dabbled in cooking, fishing and first aid.
