If I started playing again, which I'm getting that itch... I'd probably find myself on the Blizzard forums more just because I'm usually after class specific information, but I'm just wondering what you active players think about the differences between the two forums and, basically, why you're here at all.

Thx.

Two things;

1, The intelligence level here seems to far exceed that of the official forum.

2, I have heard it claimed many times that on the official forums you have a lot of Blizzard employees (not the Blues) and in particular, paid thread manipulators whom have been hired to protect the game and publishers image. Which is not surprising most big companies that are traded publicly do that kind of thing. They troll around for threads critical of Blizzard or WoW then either try to spin them, derail them, down play them, or even discredit them with outright lies.

Which would explain why there are so many Blizz can do no wrong, WoW is perfect, there is nothing wrong here BSer's on that forum and yet so little here. Then again from what I have seen few here would buy their BS anyway.

Sadly for them, the three or four that do that here don't get paid. They are just so obsessed with blizzard, they make themselves look like idiots for FREE.

A public service, if you will

I think one big difference is that Blizzard does have obvious "official" boards as part of their massive official presence. They are very well organized. They are a juggernaut. And, as we know, the game is apparently played by half the world's population ... or some absurd number. And many of those folks are playing their first MMORPG, and also, they range in age from a few months old to about 110 years.

So this massive and broad audience gets funneled right to the official forums.

I think a good chunk of the VN posters have been around MMORPGs or other computer games for a long while.

All that said, the biggest help to me on most of the forums, here, Blizzard's, Elitist Jerks, etc, are some of the quality class guides for various specs. I play too many toons and it's helpful to have a resource where you can go and find out how changes have impacted your various classes and specs.

The thing is, even though we spend most of our time in junior high style locker room ribbing sessions (out of boredom), whenever I actually do want real information, I post the question here and get the correct information immediately.

On the official forums, my question will be on page 3 with no answer in seconds.

There is no reason to go anywhere but VN for all your MMO needs.

Where else can you throw in .."Its SUB, not HUB" at the end of your post, and have people actually understand what the hell you are talking about?

This. We get the best of both worlds when posing a question here: a solid round of distraction to amuse yourself with while waiting for whatever you're waiting on (dinner, authenticators, whatever) and a filter for the massive pile of detritus that is the battle.net forums (and most others). Basically, if you can't find it in the official forums sticky threads, you can probably find someone here who's already found it elsewhere.

Agreed!

I mean, can you imagine asking the difference between a rogue and a warrior on the official forums? Would not be half as entertaining...er... I mean educational...

There are those who play tank classes, and those that tank.

Oh, yanno, one more comment.

The VN does not shut down.

It's always there.

It doesn't close down when there's an issue in a game that has everybody riled up.

Just saying.

Decent info here, and I have the time to keep up with the vn forums. I feel a little lost when I go to blizzards board.

That was very educational. Who knew that Rogues were proponents of laissez faire capitalism? Oh yeah, I really want a possum throwing weapon now......
