Enjoyed the beta. It feels like 70% WoW 20% Warhammer and 10% EQ2.
Better than WoW? probably not. Best MMO in a long time though.

Skills seemed to activate IMMEDIATELY...Not sure how much better they could make it 'respond' any better. Combat felt fine, but I didn't get a ton of play time in either.

Skills activating immediately is a good start. Do the animations run fluid with the combat? and are the hit boxes balanced? (not too tight like DAoC, or too loose like WAR)

The Class System is what has got me into this game, Basically, Depending on how you build your character, you end up with Classes from previous games.

Some Examples

Paladin - It's a Protection Warrior, Add Warlord Soul to it and you end up with the Knight of the Blazing Sun from Warhammer

Champion - Arms Warrior, Add Beastmaster, and it's a White Lion from WAR

Paragon + Champion - Fury Warrior

Rift Lines (stalker/blade) are spitting images of the Dream Line from Titans Quest

Reaver + Warlord = Chosen from Warhammer

Pyromancer - Cross between a Bright Wizard/Mage from WoW (yes that should give you nightmares)

Cabalist - Cross between a Banshee from DAOC and a Magus from Warhammer

Marksman - It's a Shadow Warrior/Squig, add the Ranger part for a Squig, add Rift Stalker for a Assault Shadow Warrior

Saboteur - Engineer from Warhammer..Grenade one that is, oh yea, Saboteur should always be your third soul no matter what on a Rogue, it's first ability is a area effect snare grenade.

That's all i can think off the top of my head, but a large number of classes from previous games are in this game.. you just gotta know what to look for.

I love games that have a lot of classes. I always felt that wow was lacking in that department.

I will keep my summary short and sweet for now.

Rift is basically WoW without the "Saturday Morning Cartoon" graphics. I think if you enjoy WoW, you will most likely enjoy Rift. The learning curve coming from WoW to Rift will be almost non-existent. There are a couple original things, but nothing that really will make this game "unique".

Overall, I enjoy it, and will be ordering and playing it with my old Vanguard guild.

Yea, what's been said here

It's WoW 2.0

But with a far greater and more interesting class System.

As long as they keep up with Content, they'll do extremely well in the market.

If you go into this game expecting PVP, you'll get it, But don't ever expect it to be Balanced in terms of Specific Souls, Some Souls are just going to wreck in PvP

However, unlike other games, They have an extremely nice class system that doesn't screw you over in the long run.

for instance, I'm going to use the Shadow Warrior/Engineer/BW comparison from WAR.

Lets say you picked one of those 3 classes, you get to 40, and you find out the BW is far greater class then the other 2 will ever be, So you can either reroll, or continue to play your subpar toon and hope they fix the class one day.

That doesn't happen in Rift, using the same 3 examples, you get to max level, find out the specific soul you picked Blows, well you can just create 1 of 4 different Soul Specs, So can switch Directly over to the BW and blow crap up, and if they ever fix the Soul you wanted to play, you can instantly switch back over.

Calling this game WoW 2.0 is narrow sighted and insulting.

The games class system is what has me interested the most, in WoW they have completely removed any ability to think for yourself like hybrid talent builds, thus I look forward to some real experimentation with it.

I hope this game will have a huge amount of success not as much for the developer, as for the entire MMO gaming community.

I would think even the most die hard WOW fans would be hoping for this games success after the mega complacent Blizzard just fed everyone an expansion that for the overwhelming player following and massive resources they have and should have put in to it is really nothing more than a poorly thought out, void of innovation, re-hatched, re-packaged, the very least we could do and call it an expansion, bowl of slop! Of course we the MMO community had to lap it up because there is really nothing else and Blizz knows it.

This game being that something else would be the best thing that could happen to this industry.

Rift is more like another WoW 0.5 or eventually 0.75. But WoW 2.0? Nope, definitely not, not even remotely close. At least not in its actual state in the beta.

What about stealth or caster invisibility - any of that in game?

Is it permadeath or just more carebear play?
