I predict a failure.
I predict the game will make money (be a success).

Normally you see a lot of praise and crap like that. I barely see any... only complains.
I rarely see praise for a new game, I've seen quite a bit for this game. Quite surprised actually. Read some good things about DCUO as well. Usually people are overly negative, and do things like predicting failure.

Most people compare the game to WoW and War.
Not most people. A lot of people compare breakfast cereal to WoW. And every game. WoW is different things for different people. Doesn't take much thought to realize that people's experiences in WoW, and how they play, and how they view WoW, vary greatly from person to person.
So someone telling me it's like WoW is like telling me to try the lasagna, it's like his aunt used to make.

The thing when you look at what they want from Rift, why not just go play WoW, it already got everything they want.
Or why not play a new game instead of the one you've been playing for several years. Or, why not do what you want. They are different games.
huldu posted:
I havent played the game but looking at the pictures one could easily confuse that game with WAR.
Or one could put their glasses on and see that it's possible to not confuse them entirely.

My computer consists of the basic requirements listed for the game, and I had a hard time playing. I could only achieve 16fps max in an uncrowded area with every setting turned down (at 1680x1050). When I was introduced to crowds of people I would drop down to 3fps. So if you're interested in playing this game then you will have to upgrade to a new machine.
My computer was 'new' 3 years ago, and the game runs fine for me at a steady 30fps.
What are you running then? I'm running Vista 64 bit, a 8800gt, AMD 9600 (quad core) at 2.3ghz, and 4 gigs of memory.

8800 is fairly long in the tooth now.

I also posted screenshots of the game on my personal site at the full 1920x1280 "ultra" setting.

We're close, except I'm running a amd phenom ii black edition with an ati 5700hd 1gb card
You'll see a drastic difference with a better card.

Is the combat responsive like WoW or theoretically responsive like Aion / DAoC?

This, one hundred thousand times this. If the UI isn't fairly modern/customizable and the controls uber responsive (see: WoW) the game could have done everything else right and still not be worth playing. The Dance Dance Revolution nonsense of AoC and Aion were perfect examples of getting a lot of aspects right, and the most important aspect wrong.

Skills seemed to activate IMMEDIATELY...Not sure how much better they could make it 'respond' any better. Combat felt fine, but I didn't get a ton of play time in either.
