When joining the RDF...

"Voice Chat Required"

Yes, I could give my Vent info to every random cawkflop, but it would be so much nicer if Blizz actually had a voice system that was worth a damn, and that we could require those joining our group in the RDF be using it.

As long as people who don't want to use it are prioritized over groups demanding it, that would be fine.

No one should have to wait even longer just because they don't want to hear some teen making anal jokes over vent.

Thanks, but it's been fun
Five more minutes then I'm done!
I've been saying that to myself since

I'm sure Blizzard is working to refine their voice chat quite vigorously, with their massive push to Battle.net and all. Until then, yea, it's quite horrible.

Well you should be able to mute specific players, but at least this would enable those who want to 'lead' the dungeon to co-ordinate things.

Sorry, but I don't care to listen to your nasal diatribe about how "uber" "pwn" your "leet" "deeps" is.

Sly, communication is the key to success, in any game.

In AC, we used "Teamspeak", because being able to talk to someone is infinitely easier than trying to type out every little step in order to show someone something new.

Yes, sometimes you will get the person that is just as self centered as you describe (since it is the RDF)...which is why I would rather it be through Blizzards chat system, than my vent.

Edit: Voice can also be hilarious at times, which helps even more with group cohesion.

You know, this thread has finally put a piece of the puzzle together for me.

Your previous insistence that PuGs would "dominate" Cataclysm makes a bit more sense.

What seems apparent to me is that you expect or anticipate that PuGs will play like you do, in an organized fashion, with their mind on the GROUP vs. on whatever else, with their intention being to contribute meaningfully to the group rather than intending to be carried or to worry only about their own DPS and so forth...

As far as I can tell Gutter, it seems like you sincerely expect that the average PuG player to play like you do.

This is an optimistic but admirable expectation in my opinion.

It is my firm belief that you do not play like the average PuG player.

I also know that now and then one can, with patience and communication, bring a group of novices through a tough dungeon in this game and help them elevate the level of their play, but I also believe that this situation is rather rare and more often than not, most PuG players are simply not interested.

Anyway, that said, yes I would like to see a voice chat requirement as well, but I've been called an elitist for saying it before as well, and the preponderance of that criticism, even on this board, tells me that my suspicions about the rarity of "PuG" players who play like you do, are accurate.

We do heroics without TS or Ventrilo.
A few lines in party chat, when you have people who aren't of the "dumb and dumber" PUG type, is usually enough.
I guess we must do something right.

I can see how it would enhance the total random PUG experience though. But be careful about what you ask for too... it means you gonna have to listen to everybody speaking. Everybody. Including the 14 year old brat in green gear who thinks he's the next lich king.

SWTOR: 50 Jedi Shadow (Tank), 50 Sith Marauder (Annihilation).
LOTRO: Lifetime account, playing very casually.
WoW: Both accounts canceled for now.
GW2: Future Warrior.

Well once you have it ironed out, voice chat isn't manditory, it certainly helps though when you are figuring out the encounters. Of corse a good group can get by with out it, heck I'm sure you could say that a good groud could do a heroic with out using the keyboard.

I guess your views make a little more sense than as well. I also expect that people entering the DF queue are there to be part of a team and do everything possible to help that team succeed. That has been my experience in the overwhelming majority of the groups I have pugged. (I would assume hundreds of times?)

Mostly, I just refuse to believe that the average person is so inept and uncaring that they can really be that much worse at such an easy game. There is no skill in WoW. There is no "talent" for WoW. I just give everyone the benefit of the doubt. If you care enough to pay your $15 per month, I assume you care enough to give it at least a marginal effort..... until you give me a reason to think otherwise.
