Several in my guild alts to 85 by archeology and mining/herbalism.

Or so they claim, and I have no reason to doubt them.

People hate grinding, and now people hate questing... How the hell do you want to level then?

Archeology is the only reason I'm ever going to hit 85 (almost 83) now. I was at over 60 days played to reach 75. Been doing archeology a little every day since cata released (on about 8 characters) and I'll probably hit 83 today on the highest one. It's boring as hell but I just do the archeology on one computer and play some other game on another. Almost back to EQ1 days when I played another game while meditating on my shamen between fights.

I would love to get some of my alts up to max level but I just can't stomach levels 50-80. Just knowing that at level 50 that in 10 more levels I will be stuck in Outland until 70 does not really excite me all that much. That and I just don't have that much time to level up alts either.

weird i thought deepholm was the best zone of them all! its the only one i did a lot of quests in and i liked it...especially that airship

Ugh, Deepholm is awful. Vash and Uldum are the best of the new zones so far. I am working through Twilight Highlands right now.

Nope, I'm weird. I actually like what other people would consider "grinding". I actually enjoy running the same instances over and over. Different makeups with different groups, different people, I dunno- I think it is fun.

When I played AC, my favorite thing to do was go into the middle of (I forget the name of the place around Ayan Baqur) and just kill mobs for hours. Although I will admit it was partly because the loot system was far superior/dynamic and I loved that each kill was like pulling the arm on a slot machine.

Anyway, there is no bigger grind that questing as far as I am concerned. If WoW's loot system was comparable to AC, I would level by doing nothing but running around the new areas killing mobs. Closest I can get to that is the DF and random BGs, so that's what I do.

If you like BGs, I would suggest leveling 50-80 that way. The amount of xp you get from BGs now is crazy. I recently took my mage from 25-75, and about 80% of the xp came from BGs. In the lower levels, he would level in about 3 wins.

When I left, there were quests for the BG call to arms, that you had to get/turn-in between every BG run. Do these not exist anymore? I noticed that certain BG's are still worth more on certain days, like the CTA, but I didn't see any associated ?'s over any of the NPCs.

Got to 82 on one of my alts just mining / archeology. At level 82, finishing 2 surveys (loot the object) nets 1% of a level. So with 3 surveys per zone x 4 zones per continent, that's 6% of a level per continent (at best). Rinse/repeat. It's very doable, and tedious. Plus travel time (luckily it's a pally with speed + fast flight).

I want to be able to quest in an open world again, with more choices, an expansive view of the world that looks like a world with recognizable landmarks (not wallpaper cut-and-paste repeats), without feeling cramped/funneled/forced and an epic overall story arc. Yanno, kinda the way it was before. <cough>

I want the kind of leveling experience in 1-60 when the world felt fresh and people talked about how fun it was.

I want the kind of leveling experience in 60-80 where it was a whole new world, or whole new continent to explore.

Where I have more choices in my experience.

No real quests any more, except for the kind like the original AB quest you picked up where you had to capture all the areas the first time. Other than that, I will do the random until I win one, then do the CTA BG as long as it isn't Isle of Crapquest.

@Auen- that's true, I never hated questing as ferociously until I felt forced into it. But that's just me- if I feel like I HAVE to do it, I will be happy about doing it.
