I want to level my warlock to 85, but the thought of going through the beginning quests again up until Deepholme for a fourth time makes me want to stab myself in the eye. Is anyone else leveling almost exclusively through DF and BGs? I wouldn't have the portals opened in SW and there would be some phasing issues from skipping quests, but would I be at a permanent disadvantage because of this? I can't think of any reason that you couldn't just skip it all and still be fine.

I can think of one, it isn't how Blizzard wants you to play. Do all the quests or suffer an incomplete world. I'm right there with you, I hate questing with a passion, but that's how it is right now.

Lemme know if you do! Our guild is hoping to do this with a next set of alts.
The thought of taking more than 1 alt (and I had 13 80s) through these new zones makes my stomach turn IRL. I have never been more irritated / annoyed on an ongoing basis in any game I have ever played as I'm leveling. I have narrowed my list down to 5 that the guild will really need (am flushing a lot of gatherers) and I'm trying to convince myself to just do it. Ugh.
Our guild is taking one set of 80+ alts MOSTLY through just instances, just to avoid the zones. Problem is, we need a few of us to get to the meeting stones to summon (since we are taking a core of 4, not 5 through atm.) Travel there and back so far is our only hiccup. With 5, where we could select the dungeon and go, this would not be an issue. (At 83, taking it slow and loving the instances, even doing them when we are a level lower than recommended.)
If you can deal with the delays of PuGs, (both waiting for the instance to "pop" and whatever happens inside), then it might be worth it.
We have a second set of alts (a couple of guildmates wanted to roll Worgens), that we are basically leveling in instances starting with Deadmines. Had to do a few quests to get to level 15, to get into the instance. Once there, we've run it a few times, hopped to Shadowfang (picked up weapon quests from trainers, then ran again), then Stockades. Having a blast doing just instances. Hoping to continue this trend all the way to 85.

There are those who play tank classes, and those that tank.
The weapon is only as good as the person wielding it.
Free advice is often worth what you pay for it: nothing.

i already got to 85 on my first time through mainly dungeon finder and archaeology. it was pretty quick, although im guessing questing is even faster. however at 84 i started to do quests - because i wanted to get therazane rep and a few faction rep reward items before i got to 85. woulda defeated the point if i had to do those at 85

Yeah, I am thinking I may just have to suck it up and do it. On the other hand, my mage is up to 75 now, so I have another one that is knocking on the door. So I may just experiment with the lock and see how damaging it really is so I know whether I have to suck it up and do it on my mage as well. You wouldn't get the seahorse mount, but if you aren't doing the quests there.... is it really that big of a deal?
I REALLY HATE FORCED QUESTING. Actually.... I hate questing altogether.

i would recommend looking up what rewards are worthwhile and doing enough quests JUST to get those. like therazane rep, opening portals, etc. seahorse mount is not needed if u never go to vashjir anyways (no real reason to). this is what i did...the only really long quest chain is the therazane rep one. u gotta do basically every quest in deepholm for awhile. but opening portals is fast.

I hit 85 with minimal question on my DK: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/the-scryers/failgnome/simple
I herbed and mined the majority of it. I did do some quests and instance runs to get into deepholm then a couple guild instance runs but the rest was herbing and mining.

I agree on Deepholm, not my favorite either. Hyjal was fun, but I like questing. I skipped Vash almost completely and didn't have any trouble running out of quests before 85, did almost zero dungeons.
I noticed a fair amount of XP gain from BGs on my level 72 DK, Don't know how that translates to 80+ characters.

Currently in the MMO unemployment line.
