Long version

Pretty reasonable rundown, but a couple of your points make me wonder when you actually last played WoW?

Racines posted:

The soul system is impressive but what really stunned me is the role, truly a fantastic idea. As a casual player, I play mostly solo. Now, I will have my solo build, my group build and my PvP build. Done being useless in group because my build is solo oriented. I am so happy with this system that will allow me to finally be useful in a group.

Do you not know that WoW has, for quite some time, allowed you to have two talent specs and switch between them, and thus have a solo spec and one useful in a group? Or is your point just that Rift allows this earlier, and allows more than two roles?

Racines posted:

Questing: same as WoW but easier because of the map support provided. In WoW you need to look at external web site to find where to go etc. No need to do this in Rift which is good and convenient for casual players.

Do you not know that this feature is almost identical to what was added to WoW quite some time ago? Quest objectives marked on the map (both as points or regions), and arrows on your minimap to point you there.

Finally an alternative to WoW. The fanboi's are cringing.

And welcome back to VN

Thank you, but I said this board. Not VN. Until Mithan adds that other board for Rift, I feel comfortable agreeing with someone's opinion about the new game on this thread.

Welcome back to this board

Trion really needs to address this issue and see that mobs strenght should be adjusted on the number of players in the area.

This is something they are working on. The number of invasions is directly tied to the number of people in the zone and I think they have this working pretty good. I come across many rifts that I am able to solo from open to close but there are some I am unable to handle. I don't think they should all be solo material though so maybe it is a difference in expectation?

Sometimes I can solo them, sometimes it solos me, lol.

So far, I absolutely love Rift, finally a well polished game, no lag, no crashes, absolutely beautiful and fun! I do have one gripe that I hope they fix, the combat sounds and animations. Currently, they're boring and feel like a free to play type of gameplay.

i played in the most recent event. the game is truly fantastic, but the world design concerns me. everything is too close together and doesnt feel like a "world." there are mountains and high hills everywhere making it feel more cramped. i only made it to lvl 12. i understand that it probably opens up later on, but the size of the first zone is about the same as the others according the world map(and not many zones). did you folks that got to higher levels ever feel like you were in a "real" world. are there any expansive views later on with the country side fading into the horizon?

the mechanics are fine as far as lag, graphics, etc., its well polished...

first day of beta had a few network issues; I think I was dropped each time they brought another server online hehe, after that quite smooth and, well, ready for release.

the bigger issues are not the underlying infrastructure, its going to be how they handle the open world events that can impact game play.

rifts, grouping issues, griefers, equitable reward schemes, 2nd and future player waves, and of course the very complicated class balance issues with so many permutations.

If they are on the ball, and the players turn out to be not be from the bottom end of the gene pool (with at least some level of self control) I think it will do quite well; if they let the 20% of of the typical startup player base that thinks internet anonymity means abuse, trash talk, and doing anything at all to ruin the gaming experience of somebody just because I want to....its another failhammer...

I "hope" they swing the ban-hammer fast, hard, and without remorse (or warning)...

I wouldn't say it opens up dramatically, but the Scarlet Gorge did seem pretty expansive N-S, but cramp in the E-W fashion.

No, if Rift continues to be as fun as it was in the last beta, I'll be gone from World of Warcraft period. Haven't renewed since my account expired about two or three weeks ago now. So, there's even less reason to be on this board.

Still, I expect you to continue to troll me on the Rift board much like you troll everyone else on every board here it seems.

That's par for the course with you.

Strange. You used to annoy the hell out of me. But, now, I just think something is truly lacking in your life. So much so that VN is your life it seems.

Maybe that's why they haven't banned you.

They know it would kill you.

Well, quote this, make your clever remark, or whatever you need to fill that void in your life.

I'd rather play the game than play with you.

Peace.

I understand you need attention and validation dear, hence why you keep making bold announcements about how you are no longer going to post on this board, but then you keep posting.

I'm just giving you the validation you so desperately crave.

I thought you'd be more appreciative

thanks for the input. i looked into this a little bit. seems to be a hot topic on several forums. i came across these images comparing landmass of some current games.

Rift isn't on either one, but still pretty interesting. i didnt realize how huge LoTRO is. i decided to fire it up and just run around admiring the world. turbine did a hell of a job on world design.
