Welp, the kool-aid, it is ingested. This latest beta event really did it for me. Defiant Bard at release. I'm not going to pretend this is some brave new step forward for MMOs, but it's got a lot of things I like about a lot of MMOs I've played before, and that's enough to pull me in for at least a month.

Ironically, this is the one game where I actually love how they designed dwarves. My favorite race thus far, so I'll be sticking to Guardians, too.

Maybe I just haven't played enough. I only got a character to 6. This game just feels like Aion and Warhammer to me mechanicwise. Character control just seems blah. I'm looking for something new and want to like this game but honestly it just feels like everything else post WOW that has come out. Does it change much in later levels and what is so different then the other games? I'm considering ordering just for something fresh but I fear that it will just be another 2 month game for me before returning to WOW. Am I missing something?

As you get out of the tutorial area, it does change a little, but not a lot. The dynamic rifts add a since of danger to the world, as they spawn anywhere, and have a huge level range, on one of the servers I'm playing on, we had a lvl 19 elite major invasion spawn right in the middle of the college quest hub(level 10-12 quests).
It was very interesting lol.

You've missed everything everyone has said in the multitude of posts here. The game uses the same game engine that WAR does hence the feel and look of things. It takes the best of things from games like WoW and WAR and a few others and polishes them very well... the same thing WoW did when it was released. WoW did nothing new, it just did many things other MMO's did, but did them better/more polished.
So either you've missed everything everyone has said or you missed nothing at all =D The unique thing for rift is the multitude of class combos you can be. The skill system is similar to UO rather instead of % based and unlocking new skills you invest your leveled points in to various trees to unlock abilities. That's really the only 'new thing' Rift has brought to the table. If you're wanting something genre changing this probably isn't it. if you're looking for something new, then this could hold you over until you find what you want.. if it's ever created.

I think I may have been there if it was the server I met you on yesterday. I was running around and then all of a sudden.. thwack.. ran in to a bunch of people my level but mobs much higher than us.

Not sure it's the best mechanic ever too. It's a good way to frustrate people who have less time to play. Getting whacked by mobs you have no chance against doesn't look very fun to most people.
This needs a bit more balancing imho.

hopefully spawn rates will be tweaked by the amount of players in the zone, some sort of modifier that lets the game know if more rifts need to be spawned or if 1-2 an hour are enough once the major level push moves through key zones.
