Just got in this morning before work just to fool around with the character creation. Pretty cool stuff. I think I am going to go for a tank class, but with this game it is not as simple as that. I got as far as picking my first soul but kind of had to rush through it because I had to get going to work. I'll start over when I get home so that I can pay more attention.


Arc I think I'll restart on your server just for the heck of it, the beta is so short I don't know how much I'll be on for the next two days, but might as well be there with friends!


I am liking the game so far, I don't REALLY like the battle animation over Wow, but I think it will just take some getting used to. I do like the over all look and feel of the game.


I'm excited.

The only complaint I had about balance in WoW is the fact that Blizzard tries to find it.


I don't believe it is possible to find balance in pvp unless the game only has one class. If a game like WoW, which has 10 classes and multiple specs, tries to balance pvp they will fail in their endeavor. They will also lose players eventually who just enjoy a certain playstyle with a character. I'd rather lose a ton of my DPS than to have them put charge and intercept on the same cooldown... that is class changing a little too much.


I hope Rift doesn't try to find perfect balance.

Fantastic Festus! I know it's often hard for Zerker players to find a new class that makes them happy.


Sly, did you check the IGN forum? Wasn't somebody there handing out codes? (Maybe I'm misrembering the official Rift forum).


Endgame: not in yet, and all we know is planned content for 5,10,20 man. 6 dungeons. Although people are testing Fae (dungeon), I haven't gotten in yet to see what that's about. My understanding is the devs are being very disciplined about not trying to reach too far too fast and waiting to see about self-sustaining before venturing forward with more content. But don't quote me. I've actually got my fingers crossed on that because it's rare to find a developer who is seasoned enough to do that.


So far the biggest PvP issue is that not a lot of folks are rolling Defiant. What I'm hearing is the "machinery" aspect of that faction does not appeal to the hardcore RPG types.

Trying to find the perfect balance is indeed an exercise of futility, but they also can't allow some specific soul combos to be utterly overpowered compared to all others. That's just as game breaking, if not more, and is a certain way to lose players.

planned paragon/riftblade/beast build

No clue what I was doing just started sinking points in places. getting the group bonds out of BM sounded key but now thinking about it, if im not fully speccing beast to get the other bonds it seems a waste

Ok, you guys are getting me excited now. The Rogue -ey combos have me dizzy with anticipation.


As for PvP "balance", meh. I only PvP as a diversion. Seems to me that a game has an initial choice to make. Balance itself around PvP, or PvE. I don't think it's possible to do both well. Perhaps gamers should be more discriminating in their choice of games and not expect a PvE game to be good at PvP and vice versa. I'm holding out hope that Rift turns out to be my new favorite PvE centric game. Gonna have to try and get in the next beta.

ther are tons of vip keys available still.. I'll see if i ca find one.
