I don't think the WoW was playable on day 1.

I'm really when sure when WoW went mainstream ... does all the free game time from all the server downtime on my account count as remembering it before it was popular?

First 3 months for any mmo are the best. When no one knows anything about the game.

To make good policy, one must consider all ideologies and decide which best solves the reality of the situation. Ideology is afterall, JUST AN IDEA.

Heh, most WoW "players" aren't "gamers".

Now that right there speaks volumes to me. You see, I PVP and enjoy running BG's to level, and gear before arena etc. etc. It just baffles my mind how many people don't try to win. And the total lack of fair play with botting. But now that I think about it, this is why. True gamers will always keep trying and pushing for victory. And now that we have non gamers playing... I dunno this all adds up.

I, on the other hand, prefer a command-line system 'cause i'm so hardcore
/north /north *You encounter an [Avatar of the god Set]!*
/cast sheild *sheild spell unavailable*
/csat shield *csat: unknown command*
*[Avatar of Set] beheads [Peasant]*

I miss the days when mmos were something the old D&D crowd and genuine gamers played, not the myspace raging smacktards that inhabit them now.

WoW from a gameplay/design perspective might still actually be a good game, but I can't separate out the horrific so-called community that has turned the game into just a headache inducing annoyance fest.

It`s that "mmorpg trope" thing, where people miss old school/vanilla times.

For some stupid reason, mmorpgs tend to evolve into something craptastic.
Ironically, Eve Online doesn´t really fit because the game evolved without raping too much of the vanilla stuff. (ymmv)

As far as I can say, I miss the time when items really had specific stats and not "all in one + this that and that" and brainfart designs. You could stack up on one, possibly two, but you´d lack the other stat.
Great times, but it`s simply a law. 80s won`t come back either ^^.

Where's that damn Nexus thing from Star Trek Generations movie when you need it?!
