I had to think about this but I stand my my statement. Rested XP does slow down my leveling. If all XP was at rested level I would level more. If no XP was at rested level I would level more. Of course time is limited so other things would slip if all I did was level.

That does sound strange Fist. If you had a half a bar of blue you don't necessarily have to quit playing when its gone do you. So if you kept playing you would be leveling quicker then if you did not have it.

I do know what you are getting at. When my blue bar is gone I will typically log and go to an alt that still has some. So my leveling across alts is faster but it slows down my real time leveling per character.

So if you multiple the percentage of blue by your time and then average it out across your alts taking into account the log in and out time you would come up with a formula sort of like %blue/#alts-logtime and then you could really optimize your leveling without all the inexactness of just logging when you quit having fun

Couldn't resist, used to love your articles and stories.

what Fist said makes complete sense.
HE only plays when rested...where are people missing how HE plays?
in WoW time, YES, his toons level faster, but who the hell lives/talks in WoW time?

No, what he says is a fallacy. Rested does not make him do anything, he chooses to level only when rested.

Ergo, HE makes himself level slower, not rested xp. Rested xp is a condition, not a sentient thing that can influence others.

are you really that out of touch with how the english language is used?

in english, NOUNS (any noun) can cause VERBS to happen. there's no implication that the noun be a sentient being.

- dams cause water to divert
- gravity causes matter to move
- etc etc

non sentient nouns cause sentient actions all the time too.

- tax codes casue people to spend differently
- sales cause people to buy differently
- etc etc

rested XP clearly causes some people to behave differently. whether it's something drastic and silly like the person we're talking about here, or something less severe like how one of my guildies scrolls through all his alts to "use up" their rested XP before he'll do any jewlrey making for me...

Umm yea whatever. I am sure rested xp is forcing all kinds of people to do things. Seeing as how it can actively control what you do or how you react? (<-- sarcasm, in case you couldn't catch that).

Rested xp is a condition, it has zero say in how you behave. You control you own actions, the way you choose to react to rested xp is all you. That little blue bar can in no way MAKE you do anything, it is all your own reactions. Your reaction has everything to do with your choice and nothing to do with rested xp forcing you to do anything.
