I've never really considered it before... most of my toons have been levelled on rested because I don't play 'that' often. But I logged in a couple of times at the weekend and the difference between resting in an Inn versus not in an Inn became quite apparent.

I have always known there to be a difference, but it has never really affected me - but as I logged in and noticed I only had 0.5cm of rested, it made me wonder why they had the difference in the first place???

I can kinda understand that initially they wanted to give people a reason to come back to town, but given the maturity of the servers, most people seem to hang around Orig/SW anyway (when they are not farming/dungeons/PVP).

Those of us who are leveling would probably appreciate not having to come back to town in order to get rested - and I know we can go to any Inn to rest, but my HS is in Orig so that I can get to Deepholm/Hyjal/etc easily and I can visit bank/AH.

There was a time when the WoW development team still included some RPGers, who thought that it made sense that there should be some benefit to the adventurers 'resting' in an inn or town, increasing socialization chances and perhaps even encouraging people to interact.

None of this has anything remotely to do with what WoW is now, of course, and the current developers wouldn't know an rpg from an fps, but they're too busy inserting random numbers into class mechanics and finding new ways to make the game less fun to get around to getting rid of the mechanic (probably by making everyone permanently rested).

Yup. Back then, most of the time people just ran into the Inn to just logout.
The only "socializing" I ever saw was on the RPG servers at that Goldshire in. Man... Striptease ftw

So much truth both literally said, and unspecified here.

All rested rested does now is slow down my leveling. I have created a portable mage on my second account to move my main players around. He is level 50 now but would be at 80 or better if I did not have to wait a week between leveling runs.

Really? You have to wait a week between leveling and rested xp slows you down?

Did you applaud the idea of permanent rested xp as a really great and innovative one that should be implemented immediately, perhaps?

You have a reading problem? You missed my point completely. I only do leveling runs when I have rested xp. What of it?

Wolfpaw's poitn I think is that you said rested xp slowed down your lvling. /shrug You wouldn't be worried about it "slowing down your leveling" if you had it all the time would you?

Actually I'm pretty sure that you level faster without rested xp in 2011, than you did with rested in 2004, after the tweaks they've made to xp requirements and quest rewards. And that's without even considering heirlooms.

So it's not rested that's slowing down your leveling, it's your OCD problems that are slowing you down.
