With the continued popularity of the Dungeon Finder, many players have been asking for a way to group up with real-life friends who play on other realms to take on instances together. Today, we wanted to give you a heads up about a new feature currently in development that will allow players to invite Real ID friends of the same faction to a party regardless of the realm they play on, and then queue up for a 5-player regular or Heroic dungeon.

As this is a fairly complex service to develop, we don’t have a release date to share quite yet. It’s important to note that as with some of the other convenience- and connectivity-oriented features we offer, certain elements of the cross-realm Real ID party system will be premium-based, though only the player sending the invitations will need to have access to the premium service. We'll have more details to share with you as development progresses -- in the meantime, you may begin to see elements of the feature appear on the World of Warcraft PTR.

It just amazes me at how much more "Premium" stuff they're starting to add.

Maybe it's just me but you'd think the 150 million + a month they make from subscription fees would be enough to cover a feature like this without us all forking over another 2-3 dollars a month.

I think blizzard realises they are charging the absolute most they can and get away with it at $15 a month and will now nickel and dime us to get us to pay more a month. $3 for AH/guild chat on a phone, then probably another $2 a month for this so that a lot of people will be paying $20 a month. then keep tossign out $25 pets/mounts on the blizzard store every couple months and they're just banking it all then expect us to pay more for features they're addind that should just be part of the game.

(edit, I get paying a fee to use my phone to /gchat or use the AH as that's taking a new development team essentially to write code and figure out how to get it to work on all the phones out there, etc. but this will essentially just be an upgraded battle.net feature that they forced everyone who plays wow into using(i'm fine with that i chose to do it when they had it in beta) but really... in game features shouldn't cost extra.)

I guess when it comes down to it.

Will you roll a new character on a new server to play with your buds? Or will you pay for such a feature? Guess which Blizzard is banking on.

I can't help but think Blizzard will suddenly release it *premium free* and everyone will be so happy that they will activate real-id and then, in the end Blizzard will have gotten people to use real id who never wanted to in the past. Remember when the boards blew up because of real id? I still think they are trying to convert everyone. But I may be cynical.

This is a pretty cool idea, charging extra for it is total bs, but it's a cool idea nonetheless.
