"Learn to drop your agro. Many classes have agro dumps, such as Fade for priests and feign death for hunters. Find out if your class has one and put it on your hotbar. Use it after crits or burst damage just to keep yourself from getting agro. If you have an ability that can be cast on another player such as Salvation for paladins, use that too! By making it easier on the tank and heals you help your group and keep your repair bill down."

Not to mention that the in-game combat text can be set to show aggro percentages now. It only triggers every 10% aggro but it's still useful if you're not using Omen or some other aggro meter.

Yeah I got rid of omen the moment they added that to the game. Works just fine.

The only class with an aggro dump I ever see getting close to the tank's aggro is a warlock.

qft.

We've had aggro problems for a while. They lowered the timer on Soulshatter though, so everything's fine now.

Rill: That is absolutely no substitute for Omen. Shame.

Blizzard's reasoning behind why not all classes have an aggro dump is absolute crap by the way. Just give everyone a way to lose aggro without dying and quit being arrogant douchebags!

Devs do something that makes total sense? Impossible, it takes years for them to recognize that something needs to be done. See hunter pet leveling, multiple flight path with a single click, mutliple, linked auction houses etc etc.

Hah! What can I say, I'm a minimalist when it comes to addons. I used omen ONLY to make sure I didn't pull aggro from the tank. The in game system does that fine. ^_^

I was raid lead for kara (back in ye olde days whippsnappers!) and did the whole thing without addons. I had a really good mental timer. I just knew about when bosses were going to do abilities so I didn't need DBM to tell me and I kept a close eye on bosses casting things. I'm not that practiced anymore so I run with DBM. I use auctioneer and postal on my bank toon. I'll activate recount sometimes when I'm trying a new rotation or just want to make sure I'm keeping up with everyone else.

And I use the Default UI *gasp*

Or people could learn how to play.

You shouldn't need a regular aggro dump if 1, you tank doesn't suck and can hold threat, 2, you understand basic concepts like how tank threat works (particularly how vengeance ramps up in thecataclysm era) and dps accordingly (oh gee, I popped all my trinkets and CDs on the pull and got threat, what a surprise), 3, you pay attention to your surroundings and your threat.

Managing aggro is a group thing and part of overall fight strategy and management. The game is already ultra ez-mode, if everyone could readily dump threat there'd be yet another thing gone from the game and it'd be that much dumber and easier. They DO give you in-game threat measurements and addons make threat completely manageable. In ancient times the only way you knew you had threat was when the mob was pounding on you...it's come a long ways since then.

What amazes me is people I run with who do use omen and still can't manage or monitor their threat. So many DPSers get totally locked in on their rotations/priorities and can't pay attention to anything else. This is why, I say...

...everyone should play a tank, at least for a while - you get obsessed with threat and watching omen because you always need to be on top and watching who's creaping up. Once you get used to watching omen as a tank, you find you pay attention to it much better when DPSing.

Actually, IMO, everyone should try every role. Like healing. You become a better player period when you experience every perspective of fights and have a better understanding of the big picture. Everyone should lead groups and/or raids a few times too so they can see all the BS leaders have to put up.

I believe I have zero respect for people who only play DPS classes and never step up to accept any responsibility, especially if they can't manage threat and can't deliver absolute top dps. If you can't even be good at the simplest thing in the game, you just suck.

Cata and this latest suck patch haven't made me (more) bitter, not at all.

Have a nice day.
