I'm interested in the hardcore pvp server. Something that other games are totally void of.

Should be seeing an announcement in a few days on that.

I tried it a while back and found it to be generally poor.

0. ~15/mo for a MMO sub is trivial amongst all the other expenses of life. So the whole F2P thing doesn't do much for me. Making a game that is mediocre or that sucks free to play doesn't suddenly make that game suck any less.

1. Clincher was archers firing in melee range. Sorry, this is beyond stupid. When 1-6 mobs are beating on you, how exactly do you draw and fire a bow? You don't.

2. Mobs look like crayola over the pretty landscapes and move benny hill fast to engage in combat (made me think that at one point their combat was too slow and this was the answer, EQ2 did the same thing, and it's brutal to endure). The landscape looks pretty but there are artificial barriers everywhere and that neato looking grass never moves for the breeze, or for you moving (clipping) thru it. I always say don't do realistic graphics unless you can go all the way, because every fault in them stands out in a big way. AoC has a lot of graphical faults in their pretty graphics.

3. The combat is supposed to be very position oriented but the sticky factor and general feel of combat kill position based moves. Combat sucks in general - animations and execution just don't feel natural. And too many abilities. Melees can have too many skills and 3-5 directional attacks such that before level 10 you already can't hotkey everything (without massive extra keybinds).

This is one area where WoW kills competitors. Combat animations and flow "feel" very solid. Rift is up there too but somehow once you shift from solo to groups the combat doesn't feel as fluid to me in Rift.

4. All male toons look like homeless people and all female toons look like amazonian boob godesses. Which I suppose works for the majority of MMORPG players (male with little hope of sexual contact with anything other than their own hand) but it's a little silly. Variety is lacking. Character creation process should start with a "boobs or no boobs" screen and go from there. I guess the novelty of being able to set your boob size (big or bigger) appeals to the basement dwellers that'll otherwise never have any significant contact with boobs.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that

Sorry, but:

What's so funny? WoW is buggy as crap nowadays, I wouldn't put it past Age of Conan to have less bugs.

Honestly, laugh but you should try it then. Through level 69 I didn't have any quests I had to skip due to broken mechanics... and since Cataclysm I encountered at least 10. 2 of those 10 ceased advancement in twilight Highlands if I wanted the portal to open up. I stand by the quote and would have laughed myself had I not actually given the game a second run. In it's current state, everything on their servers seems to actually work. Those type of issues are specifically what I refer to by polish... the stuff in game working. Heck, there are quests in BC zones that I think they have just given up on which is understandable given how few are there... but still irritating when you encounter them.

I'm a WoW fanboy, so this isn't a knock on WoW... just a refelction of how much progress Funcom has made in that area the last 2 years.

They did not redo everything. Someone may try saying that, but it is not true. They added new zones, polished and added to the quests they did have, and made other misc changes (minor) that no longer leave you quest empty.

Some of it is just making things like travel come easier and earlier.
That said, if you absolutely just hated the look and feel of the zones back at release...
you will absolutely hate the look and feel of the zones now.

I hear they added 50% more boobs to compensate for the lack of voice acting.
