A warden? Definitely. I've seen Ylug solo mobs in Caer Sidi and Galla on his warden.

Can a warden do Laby named?

Almost anything a Friar can kill, a Warden can kill. But, if you can solo the junk mobs in TG/Galla/Sidi, you're ahead of the curve already. Arguably the toughest "junk mobs" in the game.

Have a warden but never tried farming with him. What kind of temp would you use? Also do the mobs in the SI zones like sidi that you can solo drop anything you can sell?

Against a single mob, Wardens are very solid. Against multiple mobs is where a Friar or shield tank/shield hybrid starts being better. And multiple includes just adding one more, since the second mob neuters PBT vs the first mob. A Warden will take more damage from two blues than from one oj, despite killing them just as fast or even faster.

For what OP is trying to do (yellows up to low grapes, one at a time) I'd go Warden. It's not the fastest killer, but has a load of defense, some 'oh crap' buttons, and it's own run speed buff which can make up for some of the killing time vs. a 2h tank or hyrid or whatever else is an option. Failing the warden, Heretank or Friar, followed by the Thane/Valk/Reaver/Champ quartet, then VW (should be in with the Thane and such but too much casting vs. melee), light tanks, and assassins, then Warrior (for free 2h), then Armsman/Hero, and finally Savage, unless you carry a mess of healing potions. With the potions, Savage is up with the light tanks, maybe even the melee hybrids.

If you take reds and grapes out of the equation, Vamp wins in a walk. It's not even close.

If OP wasn't against archery or magic, Caster Tic would rank high, all the archers would, and VW would rank higher.

I have zero experience with Maulers, for all I know they'd be best, but I hate the mechanic of needing to be hit for your stuff to work.

For a melee single target DPS I like my Skald 50 BS 39 hammer 18 parry. He can chew through any red/low grape with realm buffs and minimal down time. I can't say how he would do against TG/Sidi/Galla mobs because I have not tried him in there (have pet class for that). Now he is RR10 and has a solid temp so that will help him out a lot.

when i came back for the free two weeks i played my assassin and messed around in laby. it was incredibly variable. id destroy a named purple, just evading everything and laying out evade chain after evade chain. and then some orange con junk mob would kill me because i couldnt evade anything and missed like crazy.

overall i would not recommend one without a bot.

Ooh, I forgot Skalds. They'd be in there with the Thanes and such. Maybe a touch better out of combat thanks to the run buff.

Thing is, my Skald always was more fun using a 1h weapon. With no haste or celerity bot, his ghetto celerity just couldn't make a 2h swing fast enough to be fun. I'm sure the 2h was more damage over time, but it was also a big snoozer.

I'm talking about the difference between real celerity and those things being the difference between capping swing speed even with a 2-hander, and swinging once in what seems like forever. I understand the 2-hander did more damage over time. But hitting a button every 3-4 seconds instead of half that was mind-numbing. Might as well just hit auto attack and walk away. And if I'm going to do THAT, I might as well get a Paladin and have no worries about living through the fight.
