Oh, I'm crossing my fingers, for my daughter and son-in-law with their 2. We're just not used to 2 so close together. My 2 were 5-1/2 years apart and, at least visably, they got along well. My grandaughters can go at it like cats and dogs. King of the hill rules the house. heh Nicolette wants everyone to share with her, but she doesn't have to share with anyone, mostly Maddy

Fun fun! At least you moms are young!

I might be off base here but if you are nursing him till he falls asleep at the breast, when he wakes and should be going back to sleep on his own....maybe he's not actually hungry but getting used to the breast as a sleep aid...?

That's what I was getting at.

A lot of good suggestions here. Good luck with it sis.

All great ideas folks. It is making me pay more attention to exactly how he eats, when he falls asleep while eating, when he turns his head before falling asleep and when he eats and stays awake. Last night I took him off the breast as soon as he stopped chugging and put him back in his crib. He was awake and put himself back to sleep no problem. He was still up every 2 hours to eat though LOL.

He is eating Rice cereal a few times a day now. Are the other grain cereals supposed to take longer to digest? I was thinking that if I gave him some harder to digest cereal before bed instead of rice cereal he might stay fuller longer?

/sigh

I'd try some baby applesauce or bananas. Sometimes the cereal goes to quick but the fruits stay a lil longer. I have Wyatt on applesauce, pears and bananas (and whatever grandpa sneaks in - usually sugar free pudding lmao)

As bas as you dont want to, you may want to try a formula bottle before bed - might be a thing of the BM isn't filling him up but formula might My niece was like that, her mom could BF all day and all night and at 6 months it was still every 2 hours and I mentioned doing the 1 bottle and within a few days she was sleeping thru the night.

i was in a similar situation with Littleman, i started including snacks between meal time. cereal w/ fruit for breakfast, applesauce snack, veggie lunch, banana snack...veggies and yogurt for dinner. still healthy amounts of BM when ever he wanted...he drank near 1/2 gallon a day on top of the rest

Well, I don't want to jinx it but he has given me 4-5 hours solid in the middle of his sleep the last two nights. 11-4 the first night and 2-6 last night. I tell you I feel like a new woman!

I have been trying to keep him more full during the day. I have increased his cereal three times a day to 2 tablespoons instead of one. I will give the applesauce before bed a try too. Does anyone think 4 months is too early for veggies? I have also been making sure that he does not ever fall asleep at the boob, thank goodness he is good at putting himself to sleep without too much fuss, as long as he is full.

I have yet to find a formula he will take. With my daughter she would only take Simulac, but Bruce hates em all and will scream his head off if I try to give him a bottle of any formula. I have even tried the expensive formulas in the organics aisle at my grocery store. If its breast milk he will chug it down, whether bottle or breast, so at least I know its not the bottle

Thanks for all the suggestions all. I never would have thought he might be using the breast as a sleep aid since he was always so hungry but based on the last few nights it seems he was. I tell ya, with all the diffences from his sister it's like I'm a noob LOL

golly hun, i feel for you.... but really glad he's slept more the last couple of nights!

my son was a very hungry baby, he'd feed for ages and then sleep like a log... by three months old the health visitors were telling me to start solids as he was draining 8 oz bottles of formula every 2 hours - i couldn't keep up with demand on the BF front.

this was 16 years ago, and i know they say summat different now... they recommend not starting solids til 6 months here (i don't know how we'd have survived that!!!) But I had him on veggies fairly quickly after he started cereals and fruit at 3 months. He wolfed everything down.

my daughter was totally different... sounds more like your little one. She was totally BF and refused anything else, even had trouble expressing milk and giving it to her in a bottle. And she fed ever couple of hours, morning, noon and night.

By 6 months i was being told at the health clinic that she was having me on at night, that she didn't need feeding that often over-night, and it was a habit, and she was comfort feeding.

i did have a habit of letting her go to sleep still latched on and i had to break her of that habit.

i started her on solids at 4 months in the vain hope it would help, but she hated them!

sounds like having something more in his tummy is helping Bruce though

she's 13 now and still doesn't eat anywhere near as much as her brother, who's known for loving his food lol and she sleeps in .... which gives me and my hubby great delight when we have to go wake her up hehe

with Littleman i started cereals at 3 months old. before the month was up he had been introduced to all sorts of veggies like spinach, kale, collards, sweet potatoes, acorn squash, carrots, broccoli/cauliflower mix...just about anything i could get my hands on he would eat.

now with Guinny, i have done exactly the same starting at 3 months as well.

i think its different rule each time you have kids....last time we were supposed to start at 3 months...this time it is 6 months... i likel how we did it with Littleman so that is what we did this time too.

i prefer to make the majority of the baby food, i like it for a few reasons. it makes me feel like i am doing more for my babies, it gets them used to my cooking and not some processed food, and bottom line is that it is much much cheaper!

somewhere along the line i was told that the more you introduce before the age of 1 year the better eater you will have later on down the line. Littleman is almost 3 now and he doesnt refuse to eat many things that i make. He is most apt to not fast food though. that is kinda cool makes me feel good too! dont know if it is true, but so far it is for my family.

My wife made the baby food too. On a trip we bought some in jars and he refused to eat it quite adamantly. He tolerated the sweet stuff, apples or something like that but wouldn't touch any of the vegetable stuff even though theoretically it was the same things my wife had been feeding him.

It's super easy to do too. Cook veggies, blend, pour into an ice cube tray and freeze. Once frozen you can pop them out and bag them. Just grab a cube or two from the bag when needed.

Ok we got off topic.
