Ok, so I know Bruce is only 4 months old and I can't expect a baby to sleep through the night at this point, god knows my first one didn't but...he'll only sleep for 2 hours max at a time, more often only an hour before waking up to eat. I am going crazy! I need some advice on how to keep that boy full! I fill him full of cereal and he'll drain me on one side of milk and I still only get 2 hours >.<

We have quiet time at night before bed, I take him into a dark room and nurse him to sleep, although he wakes when I put him in his crib and then falls asleep on his own. If I let him fuss when he wakes, he won't go back to sleep and frankly I don't want to let him CIO yet because I know he's hungry and I still feed on demand. He only naps really 2 times a day. I have tried keeping him awake for longer before bed but if he is tired he will just fall asleep no matter what I do >.<

Any ideas? I am thinking of a food maybe that I can give him before bed that will not digest so fast?

HELP!

This sounds familiar. I suggest the baby doesn't want to be fed that often but held and consoled.

My wife eventually went with the Ferber method

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferber_method

which involves CIO. It was that or go nuts and never sleep...

Thanks P_G.

I am pretty sure he is hungry cause he will only cry til I get him and then he drains me dry on one side and promply goes back to sleep. No cuddling really as he lays on a pillow and I pop the boob in his mouth, I don't even hold his head or anything. I just wish I could keep him asleep longer between night feedings.

I don't think the CIO works cause he is too hungry. When he is full he really has no problem falling asleep on his own in his crib.

On that note, my hubby was eating solid food before he left the hospital as a baby (pablum and bananas).

Maybe it's just in his genes to eat alot and I am screwed LOL.

I might be off base here but if you are nursing him till he falls asleep at the breast, when he wakes and should be going back to sleep on his own....maybe he's not actually hungry but getting used to the breast as a sleep aid...?

Thanks Darshawn.

I am not really sure but I don't think so. He can and does fall asleep on his own if he is full. He usually wakes up when I carry him back to bed and will go back to sleep on his own without a fuss. Sometimes some "chatting" lol but no crying.

And since he eats soooooo much >.<...

I just feel bad if I don't feed him when I know he is hungry!

Always best to check with the child's doctor first to make sure there's no medical reason why this is happening.

Hard to give advice on issues like this, when every baby is different.

Good luck

He's been gaining about a pound a month since birth. His growth spurts are usually accompanied by more eating throughout the day, since he is pretty consistent with the less than 2 hours at night thing

I did mention this to my dr at Bruce's 4 month check-up. He did say the same thing Varece, all babies are different. He suggested alot of the advice that I got online, like making a sleep routine ect, which I have done. And that it would be ok to try filling him on cereal too, but it seems that the easy-to-digest cereal gets digested to quick! My doctor is totally for the feeding-on-demand as well, but I am just getting worn out!

For me, putting mine on a schedule worked the best. It's tough to get it going every 4 hrs or so, but in the long run, my sanity was saved.

My daughter's girls were like yours, until about 6 months old. Then they both settled into a decent routine.

All night is the fun one. My daughter was sleeping all night after 2-1/2 weeks!!! My poor bewbies in the morning. Lol! I don't even remember when my son started all night. He liked a water bottle at bedtime and would demand a refill during the night. I know he was already in a regular bed. Maybe 2 or 3?

One thing I never did, was feed the babies in bed with me. I'd always get up and sit in the rocker or couch. I really really didn't want babies sleeping in our bed. Luckily both did fine in their own rooms from the start.

The time will fly by, honest

my older daughter did something like that but she wasn't eating enough in the daytime, I think. but she is also a pretty demanding kid who even now still needs a lot of attention.

my little one ate a lot all day long and started sleeping through at six weeks. she is much more laid back than her older sister too.

I realize now I do not fear death. I fear my daughter will not be free when I die.
