" "Pink Floyd (Literally, yes the best band ever. Any fan of any genre has to agree.)" "

While they were the first of their kind, many bands have done what they did much better than they did it... imo anyway.

Now the arguement becomes, "Who is more talented? The one who creates or the one who perfects?"

I'm more partial to the creators who leave trails for others. That's why I normally dismiss people like Guns n' Roses

The creator of course. Anyone can go back and redue things to make it a work of art, but think of it like this way.... Creating Language, creating the internet! Its the imagination that these people pocess is what is simply uncomprehensible. I could go out with a recorder kick over a few trash cans and call it "original" music, but who would buy that crap? These guys did that to a lesser extent and in such a way that is set a new standard. This is why Pink Floyd are demi-gods.

Not to mention I never thought anyone who tried to "perfect" their work to acheive something greater than it. Pink Floyd songs are literally just beyond the realm of kick ass.

I would have to agree somewhat with Krusha. Conceptually, I agree that Pink Floyd are legends and godly etc, but personally I don't really care for them at all. Sure, I love The Wall, but thats it. I remember a radio station once played DSotM in its entirely and all I can recall is that it was just a bunch of wierd noise. Not really listenable.

Maybe I need to give them more chances but I'm not inclined to. Oh and I'm over 30 (ie not a kid) but never smoked up so maybe thats it.

Anyhow here's my 10

Iron Maiden

Judas Priest

Overkill

Dio (/Rainbow)

Savatage

Hammerfall

Manowar

Black Sabbath

Accept (/U.D.O.)

Nevermore

I'm more partial to the creators for sure, but there's something to be said for someone who perfects. In perfecting they often bring something new themselves - a missing key, so to speak. It does take a fair bit of talent to rework something that's been done a 10,000 times and create something new out of it.

Take Radiohead (oh boy, here he goes about Radiohead again). OK Computer was a rock album. Rock's music been around for a while. Bands from the Beatles and Floyd to the Smiths and Pixies had a hand in them making that album. But it's something altogether new in the way they did it. It's, to me, the perfection of rock as 'art'.

Guns and Roses is another good example. Yes, Appetite for Destruction isn't a revolutionary or incredibly original rock record. But the fact is, *very* few albums get me to rock out the way that one does, and I still maintain it's one of the greatest debut albums by any band.

In the end, there's very few "creators". After Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, and a few others, everyone's just retelling the same story in different ways.
