 I have two I think.
No one taught me how to cook, at 16 I was a mommy and a wife, so we ate alot of cereal and ramen noodles lol. BUT! One night I decided to be super brave and attempt fried chicken. I remembered we did it in home ec lol, I thought i could swing it!
Yeah....I made the breading ok, but i cooked every piece completely through...there was no meat left...it was all burnt...LOL! My husband (at the time) really wanted to eat it, he tried, it just wasnt happening. That was my first attempt at fried chicken.
The second one was just this past Thanksgiving. I was all happy to be making a little dinner at his mom's house (that's where we were living at the time). I had the turkey breast in the oven, and everything was just about done, I was making the mashed potatoes (you know they were the REAL ones). Anyway, butter's in, and i've got the mixer ready... I go to put in the milk..and it was CHOCOLATE!!!!! We'd taken a half gallon of milk and made our own chocolate milk for the kids, I didnt even think about it, I just grabbed the jug and poured. I'll never live that one down I dont think. LOL

My first 'oops' involved learning the difference between a clove of garlic and a bulb of garlic. Personally, I thought it was good.

I haven't had a disaster yet, but I recall my father making a pizza once. He grabbed the wrong can and accidentally used tomato paste in stead of pizza sauce.

We were cooking a ham for Christmas dinner, and I put the tin foil wrong side up.

I've never really screwed up anything I've cooked, so I would have to go with the time I used a big skillet to sear the outside of a pork tenderloin and then put the meat and pan in the oven to finish cooking. I had company over, so I was a bit distracted, and when I went to take the meat out of the oven, I grabbed the stainless steel handle with my bare hand and dropped the whole thing on the oven door. Luckily, the meat stayed in the pan and was edible.
My hand, however, hurt like a bitch. I immediately put it in a bowl of water with just a little ice (we don't have "cold" water in FL) and soaked it for the better part of two hours and in the end I had no pain and no blistering. In fact, I went bowling that night. It was my right hand, too, and I'm right handed, but it didn't give me any trouble.

When I was about 9 I decided to make cookies by myself while my mom was at work. I forgot to put flour in the dough. I thought they seemed a bit runny when I put them on the cookie sheet, but went ahead anyway. We ended up with a burnt carmelized mess on the cookie sheet and the bottom of the oven.

I had made some dessert type dish that had a brown sugar crumbly mixture on top....
after about 20-30 minutes in the oven I wanted to see if the crumbly mixture was melting properly.....
so as I do with most food to see if they are warm, I put my finger down on top of it to feel it....
OUCH

Well, I've committed many kitchen "oops" in my time, including many things set afire (including myself!), broken dishes, wrong ingredient substitutions and so on, but this one takes the cake:
It was our turn to host Passover Seder at our house. Though I'm a Gentile and inexperienced as hosting large gatherings, I figured if I was well-organized, it would turn out ok.
So I set out to do a fair lot of the cooking the day before. Worked all afternoon and evening making Passover rolls, stuffing, matzo balls, and whatever else could be made or prepped in advance, and finally, at 11pm, started the soup. Figured I'd stay up a couple hours and then take it off.
Woke suddenly in my chair at 5am to a TERRIBLE smell. Went and checked and...the whole soup was gone except for a black mess at the bottom of the pot.
So, at 5am, I dumped out the contents of the pot (thank God for Teflon!), cleaned it, and started the soup over. It turned out fine this time and I still had time to cool it, skim off the fat, and reheat it before dinner, which was a decent success. But I still can't believe I boiled away an entire soup!
