The one starting with Wizards First Rule? I had read Book 1 when it first came out years ago, but never continued with it, though my brother owns the series.

Worth reading?

I just finished a full 7 month Wheel of Time Re-read and want to start something else.

Ohh good God.

Talk about a can of worms.

Terry Goodkind is the WORST PUBLISHED AUTHOR EVER. He is also a complete douchbag megalomaniac. Whenever somebody points out how much HIS BOOKS SUCK he says they aren't smart enough to understand them.

Trust me on this one, nothing you could ever read would be worse than Terry Goodkind. If you look back through the board I'm sure you can find one of my essays on how much I loathe Sword of Truth.

The first three books aren't terrible, but after that it takes a nose dive you couldn't fathom. He literally writes 90 pages of two characters repeating themselves back and forth to each other.

If you smeared mod on a page it would be and smell better than Terry Goodkind.

The first few books in the series are interesting. Then he gets preachy and repetitive. I wouldn't start them if I were you.

Preachy is an understatement. The books are a vehicle for Goodkind to push his extremely simplistic world view. He goes on and on and on bludgeoning us over the head with something every middle school philosophy student has already contemplated and moved past to something with actual substance.

If you want to read 10,000 pages of the same mantra preached at you over and over and over then this is the series for you. He seriously repeats himself hundreds of times throughout the series.

Nothing is worse than Sword of Truth.

That was actually how I felt after the first book.

Maybe I will skip it then.

Yeah I wouldn't really recommend anything beyond the first book, although I do enjoy the overall story and characters, the author needs to get his head out of his ass.

I do very much enjoy the Legend of the Seeker series though on TV! It's all based off the first book, with lots of the better storylines from the other books thrown in, and no preachy shiznat.

Now that I think about it even more, I remember him saying that the Wizards First Rule was "Everybody is stupid" or something like that.

I felt the author actually felt that in reality.

Goodkind claims he doesn't read. He is such a pretentious douche-bag I'm tempted to believe him, but then how did he bastardize so many ideas from Wheel of Time?

Terry Goodkind: If you notice a similarity, then you probably aren't old enough to read my books.

postedrem Utah: What do you think distinguishes your books from all of the other fantasy books out there, and why should readers choose to read your series?

Terry Goodkind: There are several things. First of all, I don't write fantasy. I write stories that have important human themes. They have elements of romance, history, adventure, mystery and philosophy. Most fantasy is one-dimensional. It's either about magic or a world-building. I don't do either.

Because most fantasy is about world-building and magic, a lot of it is plotless and has no story. My primary interest is in telling stories that are fun to read and make people think. That puts my books in a genre all their own.

postedon't be fooled. The assertion made by these detractors is a note wrapped around a brick thrown through the window. These people are not fans. There are hundreds if not thousands of fantasy books that fulfill their professed taste in books. Why would they continue to read books they claim are bad? Because they hate that my novels exists. Values arouse hatred in these people. Their goal is not to enjoy life, but to destroy that which is good -much like a school child who does not wish to study for a test and instead beats up a classmate who does well. These people hate what is good because it is good. Their lives are limited to loathing and indifference. It isn't that they want to read a good book, what they want is to make sure that you do not. Ignore them.
