i got over that long ago. i think i surprise alot of women looking for paranormal or urban fantasy when i talk to them about it and make suggestions because i actually know about some of the series their reading. i think the worst ones if your a guy is if your reading any of J.R. Wards books...every title is Lover this or Lover that. they don't even hold a candle to the crazy crap LK Hamilton does in her later Anita Blake books though so i'd call the titles somewhat deceptive. speaking of Anita Blake books...the latest one, Hit List, was halfway decent. she cut way back on all the porn shes been writing and actually wrote something that tried to be more like the earlier books. unfortunately she seems to have run out of inspiration because while the lack of sex was an improvement it felt like alot of the rest of it was regurgitated stuff from previous novels with a fresh coat of paint over it to make it look new. still...it was a slight improvement over whats become her norm.

lately i've been on a biography kick. i just keep picking up random biographies to read. guess i've burned out a bit on fiction.

I have mixed emotions about Hit List. You more or less summed them up, it was nice to draw back from the sex but it felt like she had nowhere to really go with it. I felt like she finally wrote a book with a plot and it was a crap plot.

Regurgitating the stuff with the big serial killer guy is getting old book after book and I hated how the plot was so poorly developed; she basically ignored the story and had the characters screwing around then in the end the bad guys progressed the plot, thus making everything the protagonists did meaningless. It was like Anita was sitting around the entire book waiting for the bad guys to force the action. Though it was nice to finally be rid of that villain.

Really, that is a hallmark of her writing, plots that Anita is completely uninvolved in. She sets up the conflict then Anita has sex until somebody else forces the action and things resolve. I think this is my biggest problem with her and it was very apparent in a book like this where she actually tried to write a story.


Also, when I was reading those J.R. Ward books I was too embarrassed to even tell people what I was reading when they asked. Like, I know my aunt loves the series but I don't have it in me to discuss them with her. Now that I think about it, my aunt knowing would be even worse because she knows exactly what I read.

i've not read anything by heinlein. i'll buy one of his books after i read this kitty norville thing today. i also grabbed the first asimov foundation book and the first assassin book by robin hobb since i've seen TONS of people say they love both and i've not read either.

Orphans of the sky is a 2-3hr read, and it will be some of the best hours you've spent reading

ok well. i do not like books staring a female werewolf in a pack of werewolves where the alpha werewolf is basically an abusive husband.

Her liberation from that situation is a plot arc.

in the first book? i'm a little over half way through it. i might like it with out that aspect. it might also be that the bitch alpha has my name and that irritates me to no end.

she makes progress through at least two of the books with her original packs issues. my advice is stick with it, the whole abusive family/pack thing is basically the authors tool to build the character and let her grow. you'll appreciate the resolution to the pack issues when you get to it although the final resolution isn't part of the first book, but she does make progress.
