a movie about the early days of the borg would freakin rock. are the borg even in the original star trek series? i thought they were introduced in next generation.

Seems possible. Wasn't there talk at some point that V'ger might have been a predecessor of the Borg?

There are some non canonical stories about it. William Shatner wrote some books on the subject.
