A quick google search mentions Clash and both of the next Harry Potter movies being converted purely because of Avatar.

Looking at various previews of Alice though, they have stuff flying at the screen and various foreground shots, so it doesn't look like one that is being converted, but rather, originally intended.

All I see is vanilla Ice doing an impression of Rotten Tomatoes "well, the reviewers above me say this, so I'm going to as well".

When I see a preview on television that doesn't even show Alice once in lieu of ten shots of Johnny Depp looking like an idiot I think I have a pretty clear idea what they are going for.

You can play stupid if you really want to, but this movies suckiness is written on the wall.

Of course, you probably thought Johnny Depp's performance in Pirates was revolutionary, chances are this movie is right down your alley. Did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory change your life?

Burton is a washed up hack who never had any talent to begin with, just hype based off a film he didn't even make (Nightmare Before Christmas) and Depp is a moron. If all the pieces are crap chances are the result will be crap.

Depp has put in some truly great performances. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Ed Wood, at the very least. And Burton has talent, but he's been done as an interesting filmmaker since making Ed Wood. The man quite simply has nothing else left to say. He tried with Big Fish to show a different side, but I thought the movie was pretty dreadful, even though it has its defenders. Willy Wonka and Alice are pretty clearly him coasting. Still, everybody likes a bad movie occasionally. If I can watch a bad action movie, why can't my girl like watching Burton direct Depp to act like a mentally challenged ponce?

I like movies. I'll see any and all at least once if given the opportunity, and won't let any preconceived notions rob me of doing so. Come out with some really good gems, and of course some real stinkers.

For Pirates specifically, meh. The first one was ok, the other two were just... there.

Charlie could have been better, but it was a lot closer to the book than the original.

Cut some of the slapstick and change Depp's Mr Rodgers / Michael Jackson combo and it would have been good. I liked the cotton candy / wool candy joke that slipped past most.


And commercials always play up the stars. It's how they sell to the American audience.

So, although there are commercials with lots of Alice, the one that gets the most airtime is the one with the star power.
