Don't you people realize that the only way to stop them from making these ToS - Profanity movies is to not go and see them?

I don't like that they are "3Ding" movies based on Avatar's success.
If there is a non-3D option, that's what I'll be seeing.
But I will be seeing it for sure.
I love Burton films. Ever since BeetleJuice or Peewee's Big Adventure (whichever came first).

Ugh, total pet peeve territory.
I am reminded of the time I was at Watchmen and the dude in front of me saw an Observe and Report trailer and said "Just another Paul Blart rip-off." Even though Observe and Report was largely finished before Paul Blart ever came out.
While Avatar's success certainly helps the 3D phenomenon, it is not driving this current crop of 3D films. You do realize these things were in production long before Avatar came out, correct? And that there were not only "new" 3D films like Coraline and others released before Avatar, but also discussions about applying the new 3D to old films like SW and LOTR long before Avatar came out? Hollywood is a copycat town, but they can't turn around a big things like this in two months.

Whether it's based on the success of Avatar or not is irrelevant. 3D format is becoming the norm.

How is it irrelevant? I was responding directly to a quote that said they were basing these 3D films off of Avatar's success. I just think if you make a statement about something you should know what you're talking about.

Also: as I have said before, the main thing driving 3D is a reaction to rampant internet piracy.

It's irrelevant because you're nitpicking about what's influencing the 3D market today. Yes, Avatar's success didn't have anything to do with the development of Alice in Wonderland. Golf clap for your smart observation there. But I would be willing to wager it's going to affect the number of 3D showings of the movie vs. the number of traditional showings.
Also, the main thing that's driving 3D is . You can argue that piracy is the same thing, but I don't think piracy (at least of the theater bootlegged variety) has as much of an impact on their income as what they're earning by raising the ticket prices a couple more bucks. I suppose it's a win/win for studios...at least until 3D TVs are delivered and the entire digital film is leaked.

I said it was based on Avatar's success because that is exactly what the media reported it as being.
I think the quote was from the story that Clash of the Titans was going to have 3D effects added. It listed a few movies, and stated that movie studios were looking to redo the upcomming movies in 3D based on the success of Avatar.

No, I said I was stating something that was a pet peeve of mine. It's really easy to make an assumption about something but be totally off base because you lack one or two key pieces of information.

The exact number? Maybe. But most of those theaters were booked prior to Avatar's breakout success. Which is why analysts have been saying for weeks that Avatar's run would hold solid until Alice takes its screens.

"It's money" is overly reductive. It's a business, most of the motivation is money. Whether you believe me or not, fear of piracy has been the industry's primary concern for years now. Hell, you couldn't rent a dvd for awhile there without seeing part of their anti-piracy campaign. Yes, the higher ticket prices are attractive to studios. There's no question about that. But what caused the perceived need to shift the industry towards a new way to exhibit films? They'd tried dozens of things over the years that amounted to gimmicks. Including the old 3D. There was no reason for new 3D to gain the traction it did except that fear of piracy changed the industry. They wanted to make films harder to pirate. It's also why the theatrical to dvd window is continuing to collapse. It's hard to prove just how much money they're really losing to piracy. Nevertheless, it was the much more the main catalyst for the changes being implemented than the success of one movie.

/shrug. You put your comments in an Alice in Wonderland thread, not a Clash of the Titans thread. They may well have decided to change Clash after Avatar's success. But Alice in Wonderland had these plans before people knew whether Avatar was going to be a big hit or a big bomb.
