Going to just copy/paste something I posted on another forum regarding the topic of the iPhone 4 being a disappointment/flop.
Quote:
The iPhone 5 sounded like a great device. Larger screen, sleeker redesigned body, LTE and WiMax, redesigned touch home button, some other stuff was floating out there too. It was all fake and probably was probably unrealistic to think all that could be put into such a thin body.
If I purge my mind of all the iPhone 5 rumors and just look at the iPhone 4S, I think it actually looks pretty good. Dual core A5 processor with significantly improved graphics, much better 8MP camera, and improved HSDPA 14.4Mbps modem. And typically with Apple the focus is on the software and user experience than actual hardware specs anyway. And they did some nice things with iOS 5 and Siri voice assistant looks promising.
* No LTE/WiMax
Not really a surprise, I hear LTE is brutal on battery life (not sure about WiMax). I suppose HSDPA 14.4Mbps modem was used to improve speed, but keep the battery life very good.
* No 4 inch screen.
This could be intentional. Many iPhone buyers are women and younger people with smaller hands. They may want to stick with 3.5 inches to satisfy the majority of people that are buying this phone.
* No Teardrop Redesign
Pics of that teardrop design showed a very thin phone. Considering the all the hardware improvements being put into the body it is probably unrealistic to make the phone any thinner at this time. And if they can't reduce it's thinness, then maybe now may not be the time to redesign it's appearance.
The iPhone 4S is a disappointment compared to the iPhone 5, but the iPhone 5 wasn't real.
For probably a lot of people wanting an iPhone with a larger screen, that is an understandable disappointment.
But I think the iPhone 4S will be really successful anyway. Might not be an iPhone 5, but it's still a big improvement over the iPhone 4.
