Final thoughts on the iPhone 4S, then I'm moving to back to Android mode for next weeks announcement.

Going to just copy/paste something I posted on another forum regarding the topic of the iPhone 4 being a disappointment/flop.

Quote:

The iPhone 5 sounded like a great device. Larger screen, sleeker redesigned body, LTE and WiMax, redesigned touch home button, some other stuff was floating out there too. It was all fake and probably was probably unrealistic to think all that could be put into such a thin body.

If I purge my mind of all the iPhone 5 rumors and just look at the iPhone 4S, I think it actually looks pretty good. Dual core A5 processor with significantly improved graphics, much better 8MP camera, and improved HSDPA 14.4Mbps modem. And typically with Apple the focus is on the software and user experience than actual hardware specs anyway. And they did some nice things with iOS 5 and Siri voice assistant looks promising.

* No LTE/WiMax
Not really a surprise, I hear LTE is brutal on battery life (not sure about WiMax). I suppose HSDPA 14.4Mbps modem was used to improve speed, but keep the battery life very good.

* No 4 inch screen.
This could be intentional. Many iPhone buyers are women and younger people with smaller hands. They may want to stick with 3.5 inches to satisfy the majority of people that are buying this phone.

* No Teardrop Redesign
Pics of that teardrop design showed a very thin phone. Considering the all the hardware improvements being put into the body it is probably unrealistic to make the phone any thinner at this time. And if they can't reduce it's thinness, then maybe now may not be the time to redesign it's appearance.

The iPhone 4S is a disappointment compared to the iPhone 5, but the iPhone 5 wasn't real.
For probably a lot of people wanting an iPhone with a larger screen, that is an understandable disappointment.

But I think the iPhone 4S will be really successful anyway. Might not be an iPhone 5, but it's still a big improvement over the iPhone 4.

The iPhone 4S is nice, no doubt, but not enough to make me want to upgrade to it from a 4.

Same here. I'll wait for the actual iPhone 5 and while I'm doing that Apple may very well lose me to whatever awesome new Android phone comes out.

You know I keep hearing people say how it's still going to sell well... of course it's going to still sell well, there are more people with 3g and 3gs's I think than 4's , so yea I expect it to break sales records. But I do not expect people trading in their 4's for a 4s.

Then again people with a 3g and 3gs may try android since this seemed to be under whelming for alot of apple people.

I dunno. Only costs $200 to upgrade and many will be eligible this month. For that price, the upgraded and A5 processor might be plenty reason enough to upgrade from an iPhone 4.

Also keep it mind that when you upgrade, you get to keep your old hardware, which means you can resell it on ebay to recoup most of your losses.

When the iPhone4 came out, I was up for an upgrade. I purchased the iphone4 for $200, then sold my old 3G for $185 on ebay. Of course, I had to re-up my two year contract as well.

But is it worth that upgrade when you know the 5 is coming in less then a year. Probably sooner given the initial reception of the 4s.
