This is just my belief, but I seem to be with the masses in this opinion.

Drivers: Nvidia > ATI
Game Compatibility: Nvidia > ATI
SLI/Xfire scaling: Nvidia > ATI
Onboard Video Platforms: Nvidia < ATI (lol ion2)
Linux Support: Nvidia > ATI
Price to Performance: This door swings back and forth every month or two.

There are a few more categories we could toss in there but I have had too much to drink and you get the picture. Overall the winner is easily Nvidia although admittedly I do like ATI's hardware more, even though most of their venders look fairly questionable.

I have been bitten several times by ATI's drivers and although it sucked, I would upgrade to an ATI card again if it better suited my needs than the Nvidia cards I currently have. Overall though Nvidia is your safer bet for your money.

More like

Drivers: Nvidia = ATI both have had totally catastrophic driver releases. I remember the NVidia drivers which were frying cards.
Game Compatibility: Nvidia = ATI
SLI/Xfire scaling: Nvidia > ATI no idea, I don't use multiple cards, I think it's useless crap, so I don't care, so I trust you here.
Onboard Video Platforms: Nvidia < ATI
Linux Support: Nvidia = ATI
Price/Performance ratio: Nvidia <<<<< ATI

I've used 3 different Nvidia cards and 2 different ATI cards. In my experience Nvidia > ATI.

This thread is degenerating into the usual exchange of personal preferences, as "ATI or Nvidia" threads always do...

It's entirely subjective. There is no "right" answer, not least because ATI supporters invariably rely on Nvidia's historic reputation for compatibility issues, while Nvidia supporters invariably rely on ATI's historic reputation for driver issues, which only goes to show they have always been pretty level-pegging and subject to personal preferences - and nothing has changed in that respect!

Fact is, they both make decent graphics cards that are well supported these days by developers and drivers alike. Just as well, given that no-one else does!

I kinda agree with you Seffrid, but remains the price/performance factor.

For similar performances, AMD/ATI is usually much cheaper than NVidia.

Personal preference coupled with quite a bit of anecdotal evidence.

I've been very happy with my ATI card.

It runs all the games I play, I see no need to change at present.

AMD's new driver download tool sure is pissing me off though.

We should get Persistant or BT in here to settle this debate. They are good at FUD.

I survived to the end and got nothing out of it, but hey.
