Yeah yeah I know it's an age old debate, but I'm wondering. Can anyone name a recent game where it seemed like all the people with ATI cards are fine, but the nvidia users are suffering from crashing, instability, and other problems?

None in recent memory really. nVidia has superior drivers and always has. ATI has obviously improved, but they still flop from time to time as you are experiencing with Rage. Star Craft 2 and a few other games needed immediate driver releases to fix issues.

I was one of the first to buy the 9700 Pro when it came out, and I also owned a X1900XT when it came out. While they were good cards, the drivers were never as good as the nVidia drivers. For the most part, I didn't have a lot of issues but I DID have issues. I stick with nVidia mostly because its cards are always the fastest (at a cost of course).

i had one ati card and it's problems were enough to ensure that i will never have one again. nvidia would have to go out of business or be so horrible that onboard graphics cards are a better option before i'll go back to ati.

It's interesting, because I'm exclusively using ATI cards since the first Radeon cards (I was ATI developer back then and even got an engineering model of the 8500 months before it was released). And guess what... I never had any of those driver problems people pretend ATI is plagued with. I'm very happy with my actual Radeon HD6870, excellent performance/price ratio and flawless functioning.
I must be lucky.

From personal experience, I have had much better luck with Nvidia over ATI. The last 2 ATI cards I have had were flaky depending on the game. 5850 and x800 respectively. It will be a while before I get another ATI (well ok AMD) card..

SWTOR (beta) and Rage by id software have or had ATI issues.

Gave up on NVidia a year and a half back. Using ATI now, no problems, but then again, I only use the driver and do not install the CCC or update the because there is a newer driver out.


NVidia has a problem with QA on their drivers. And I dont care if you believe this or not, but there have been 3 sets of drivers in the last 10years that caused NVIDIA GPU fans to slow or STOP during intense gaming...in some cases this has caused the card to die and a new set of drivers was released within 2weeks, previous set disappeared. No acknowledgement of the problem.

They are the same to me. I get whatever is best for price and performance at a certain mark. I have had issues with Nvidia and ATI drivers, but nothing end of the world type stuff. Currently Nvidia has little screen tearing on BF3 beta here and there (GTX 285).


Last few years it seems ATI/AMD GPU's run a little hotter (& louder) then Nvidia at the mid to high segments. Though I think that has come closer with latest GPUs.

Yeah KOTOR (the original) I remember having issues with my x800 in some of the areas of Dantooine. For some reason ATI would drop to a crawl there (played fine everywhere else).

I have heard a lot of people's personal experience, and of course this includes both good and bad things with ATI and nVidia users. Someone will have a bad experience with nVidia, then swear to ATI for life, and vice versa.

However, whenever I'm doing research for a story on a new game, if there is an issue with one brand or another as a whole, it is ATI. Yes, nVidia users have problems too, but overall, the numbers show time and time again... ATI FTL.

And when a fix is finally released, it is always updated drivers, not a patch to the game. Not sure if that "proves" who's fault it is, but it's hard not to point the finger.
