I dunno, when "thinking for yourself" involves doing what Bush did, I think I'd rather have someone who doesn't than someone who does.

I mean, some free thinkers jump off cliffs thinking they can fly too. But I'm not sure I'd say they're superior to people who don't because they've been told in school how gravity works and they believe it.

people knew what they were getting at least with bush. a dipshit puppet of his neocon cabal. obama actually seems to think line a sane, non-dangerous person yet still does absolutely nothing to improve things with his power. bush had no potential to be any good. obama has that potential and criminally wastes it.

Because he's not man enough to think for himself.

This is a very common meme in the Obama criticism. Its been around since very, very early in the 2008 election cycle before anyone ever had enough information to conclude this and its been repeated constantly as an article of faith for 4 years.

Very curious.

I don't think the highlighted thing is true at all for 2000. Bush campaigned on being a non-interventionist. By 2004 it was pretty obvious what he was really like but at that point he had also already got us into a bunch of wars and if it's one thing we can count on American sheep to do it's vote for the wartime president even when it's his fault we're in the war to begin with.

In terms of Obama's potential, I don't disagree. But I thought we were talking about who was worse, not who has the potential to be better but wastes it worse.

Worse is worse... Doesn't really matter how you get there does it?

And that's the point. Obama is not worse than Bush. He hasn't fixed many of Bush's messes but he hasn't got us into a bunch of new messes either. That is clearly not as bad at the person who created the messes to begin with.

I am happy to vote for Obama again. The worse you can say about him is that he largely maintained the status quo. At least he didn't cause the kind of mayhem to our country that Bush did. And I think his handling of the depression was a lot better than four more years of tax cuts and deregulation would have been.

this makes minimal sense. bush caused mayhem, obama continued all of bush's policies. and he extended all of bush's tax cuts. when the status quo is a train wreck, how is it acceptable to maintain the status quo?

Shhhhhhhh. Just let him relax in his smuggie.

bush was definitely worse. obama is significantly more disappointing. if one of my employees had a 4 year work history analogous to obama's, i'd fire him. the fact that our two party system makes it reasonable to vote for someone that has done nothing in their 4 year term is really pretty sad.

Obama has been terrible. i think he's worse than bush, because of the way the system works. There is literally no counter for laissez faire big business knob slobbing in our gov't right now. You either really love big business or really really love big business.
