I agree. I wonder if machine intelligence will be our legacy was a species. I wonder if machine intelligence is the dominent species out there in the universe. It surely is superior in many ways and not limited like traditional species.

I watched a documentary a while back where they mentioned the sun was going to get hotter as it ages, prior to becoming a red giant, which means it may get hotter on Earth as well. Whether life can adapt or not I suppose depends on how quickly it changes. I'd hope that humanity's descendents by that point would have figured out how to get off the planet and explore/colonize other planets by that point.
The sun isn't expected to become a red giant for about another 5 billion years, but something is expected to happen way before that. The Milk Way Galaxy is supposed to collide/merge with the Andromeda Galaxy in 2-3 billion years, so I wonder what would happen.
At best, the solar system may not be affected much, but the Earth could be thrown out of the Sun's orbit by a passing star/planet. A black hole, star or even gas giant from Andromeda may swallow up the Earth/Sun, or Earth gets hit with a Gamma Ray Burst, so there goes all life on Earth, from roaches to humanity's descendents.

Industrialized civilization was a one-shot deal for this planet.
If (or when) homo sapiens sapiens bites the bullet, another sentient species may arise, but will never reach the same technological level that we have today.
It's sad, really, all this potential and we waste it on meaningless ideology and the pursuit of selfish pleasures.
