There's no guarantee of anything in life. It's possible, and probably common, for people to experience far more pain and misery in their lives than happiness. So, why do we act as though being unhappy with life is an unnatural condition that should be corrected?

This is one the many nonsensical modes of thought one can conclude when you take god out of the equation.

What about people barely alive connected to the Outpost for life support? Should they want to live?

Anyone can want to live for any reason I suppose, but I'm not convinced anyone should want to live.

Everything is in how you look at it. By many standards, my life sucks. Not by my standards however. Sure, I have very low expectations, no dreams for the future, and exist like a lump of lichen sucking up polluted air and excreting slime...but I happen to think my slime is awesome and the world is a better place for my having made it.

Well Ptilk by everyone elses standards my life sucks too but I like it. Its much better now than before even with a horrible job I might get fired from.
Life is good. I'm glad to be alive.

I think a lot of people just say that because they don't want to face the truth.
Life certainly can be enjoyable, but it is not fair. Some people will enjoy life more than others, and some no matter how much they want to be happy never will be.
There are people who will never be loved, or successful or anything else they want for themselves. They will spend their entire lives longing for something that will never come, and even in the final moments cling to an existence they don't enjoy out of fear and regret.
It's kind of pathetic really.
Why not go ahead and embrace the inevitable? They could save themselves a lot of pain.
