I think it's a pretty accurate statement.
Before our bodies existed we did not recognize consciousness. I can't say for certain that this means there wasn't a consciousness before, but I can say that before I was a human being I did not have a human consciousness.

I'm not the one saying that science can explain consciousness.
I'm arguing that we simply don't know. And until it can be proven, there is merit to speculation.

We have never observed consciousness that wasn't attached to a body. If you destroy the body, that consciousness ends. (Or at least enters a state in which it is no longer able to interact with our reality in any way.) You can manipulate the body to affect the consciousness. Apply a chemical that affects how brain cells work, and the consciousness will change. Insert a probe into the brain to stimulate certain brain regions, and it changes the consciousness. And where has your consciousness been hanging out before you had a body? Not even your consciousness seems to know.
All our observations are entirely consistent with the notion of consciousness being the result of physical processes. Just like this post is the result of physical processes. Call us when you have new information.

The reason why we have never had the ability to test consciousness outside the body is because we don't quite understand or have access to other physical dimensions yet. When our spirits/souls or w/e leave the body we enter another physical dimension parallel with ours, one that can only be accessed possibly through deep meditation. Once we start to understand the other physical dimensions in our universe many questions will start to be answered..

I haven't followed it more than the few links that have been put forward to the Outpost by others with an interest, but Astronomical science has a few wild theories out there. Its amusing to read up on the excitement of geeks that, just because they cannot disprove the theory of colliding multi dimensional universes, they bounce with glee that it must be true!

Funny little fantasy you got there. What are "physical dimensions" anyway?
