When You Die Your Brain Decomposes |
This morning I was stretching and looking at my legs. I realized all of that flesh would someday be gone. I then thought about my skull without a brain. That too will decompose. Where do all your memories go? The spark of consciousness disappears! Where does it go? Do you take a vacation?
When I was young I was intrigued by shrunken heads  Do they think? If so, what are they thinking about?

One of my engineering counterparts is pretty jazzed about the possiblity of storing human memories in computers before we die as a kind of immortality. I pointed out that it still won't matter to the person, who will die and not be able to benefit from any of those stored memories.
He hadn't thought about it before and seemed disappointed.

Everyone dies. I intend to enjoy life for as long as I can. I believe there is an afterlife but logically I accept that it might be just lights off. In any case there is nothing I can do about it so I don't waste my time worrying about it.

if all life is, is chance. once you die you will join the abyss. maybe it will take ten billion years or a hundred before your time is up to experience sentience again.
since you are unaware the time will pass by as if it was instantaneous. you will close your eyes and then open them as some alien species. you'll pop back into existence whenever your new form gets over its childhood amnesia if you're burdened with it. maybe you'll be a fat alien kid sucking on a fudgsicle, you guys would be prodigies.
if you've had the fortune of experiencing sentience once, odds are in favour of it happening again, no? if for some reason each one of us is 'special' and this is a one off, well that would be a lot more interesting and to me suggests some sort of design.
