President Obama formally notified Congress on Thursday of his intent to raise the nation’s debt ceiling by $1.2 trillion, two weeks after he had postponed the request to give lawmakers more time to consider the action.

I am liking the Republicans stance on this "raising the debt ceiling". I too, am going to stop paying my obligations.

Now THAT'S fiscal responsibilities.

I think the Republicans have hit a time where they have lost complete site of reality.

The Truth is heavy, therefore few care to carry it.

Exactly. This isn't new spending. It is to make room for spending already approved by Congress. Republicans shrilly cry all the time that it is uncertainty that is keeping businesses from expanding. Well, what can breed more uncertainty than one political party using the threat of closing down the entire government by making a big issue over a completely pro forma bill?

It's like when they voted for, in the House, a bill that proclaimed no tax decrease would increase the deficit. (And, then, of course, whined that continuing a tax break for the middle class HAD to be paid for somehow, because, you know, we can't increase the deficit.)

Next thing you know the dollar will fall and American companies might sell more things overseas and domestically. Totally awful.


Inflation might double which will make it easier for anyone with debt in dollars to pay off their debt. This will leave more money to be invested or to purchase new products. Again, sounds totally awful.

Maybe Congress should stop approving spending of money they don't have.
